June 7, 201114 yr Sure the wind does. The wind actually moves the clouds. No, the wind does not spin the clouds around.Yes you are right, I forgot about it.
June 7, 201114 yr I was curious about how FSX handled storms too. A few years ago there was a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. I fired up Active Sky, headed for it, and I have to say that it was the most impressive weather I have seen in the sim. Clouds, wind, eyewall, scud, it was amazing. It was so much fun that later when it hit land I went to an airport to see what would happen and landed with a 90KT crosswind, what a ball!Just recently when the bad weather was in the US midwest I looked on NOAA weather, found the worst, which was St Louis at the time, and went there. Except for seeing a tornado (and I am not sure I didnt!), it was exactly as the METAR and radar showed. One other flight we took in multiplayer, we had 7-8 people flying a round the world flight, we ended up at Mexico City at night in T storms. It was and is the only time I ever actually broke a sweat in the sim! You aint lived until you have lost an engine on final in a major thunderstrom, man what a ride! :-) Jay
June 7, 201114 yr Here's a video I did back in 2007 using ASX (Which was the current version at the time) flying through Hurricane Flossie over Hawaii. I wish I had EZDOK at that time, I think it would been a more realistic perspective to the flight. It was also made before Youtube went HD, so the quality isn't as good, as it would be if made today. Also for some reason, Youtube dropped the 480P option on these older videos, which doesn't help matters. You can clearly see the Hurricane on the radar though!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
June 7, 201114 yr How'd you lose an engine?Well, I guess I can tell now, it was a long time ago heheheh... We were flying in the ES CJ1+, I was flying as co-pilot and monitoring. The PF got us a little too low while manuvering in those thunderstorms. I have 'Engine Start and Stop' assigned to my yoke, using the right side rocker switch, since I never have to use 'aileron trim'. I reached forward to add some power and inadvertently tapped that switch and it killed both engines :-)..... we managed to get one started before we went down and landed ok, but it sure added a new dimension to that landing. To this day the guy flying still thinks the engines just quit, at least until he reads this :( Jay
