June 6, 201114 yr I want to create the most vicious, terrible storms that FSX can generate-- either from the FSX weather settings or using ASE. Also would like to hear of any terrible storms that you have you encountered flying in FSX. Thanks!
June 6, 201114 yr Hey Dig,Any of the decent real weather programs should be able to help you out with terrible vicious storms like this civilization has never seen you just have to pay attention to where they are happening and plan your flights accordingly. And what's really cool is you get free upgrades in terror and viciousness as the planet continues its warming trend Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. June 6, 201114 yr Hi,You are not going to get any violent action in FS. You can get strong gusty winds, but all the smoothing that is incorporated is going to minimize the affects on your plane.
June 6, 201114 yr I flew into KSTL about 10 minutes after the tornado passed through. It was kinda windy :D No tornado in FSX tho. Johan Pettersen
June 6, 201114 yr Commercial Member Also it would be nice if MS Flight would model hurricanes!Cheersjja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
June 6, 201114 yr Hi,What parts? We can do high winds, driving rain, lightning, thunder, the actual eyewall that you can fly through and go from stormy, to calm and clear, back to stormy on the other side of the wall, we can do very low barometer pressure.
June 6, 201114 yr I started to chime in. I know for a fact ASE can simulate Hurricanes in FSX.In real life thunderstorms are completely avoided. I treat them no differently when flying in my sim. They'll tear an aircraft apart anyway. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
June 7, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the great responses! I am interested in trying to fly thru a hurricane (virtually of course) mostly for the challenge.
June 7, 201114 yr Hi,Then you are going to need to purchase ASE and then use some historical weather or wait for a hurricane this year.
June 7, 201114 yr Is it a tornado? Lots of thunder tooCould be, I suppose, but I don't think so - I've seen the same a few times in nice weather. I think it is something about the viewpoint changing as you pass over the clouds. Makes them look like they rotate. June 7, 201114 yr No they rotated too from a distance!edit: maybe you're right, i'll remove itIn FSX wind does not have any effects on cloud.Just curious, does FSX simulate updrafts and downdrafts? i.e. Vertical component of wind
June 7, 201114 yr Sure the wind does. The wind actually moves the clouds. No, the wind does not spin the clouds around.Yes, in a basic way drafts are simulated. You need a weather program for more accurate drafts.
