June 20, 201114 yr I live in Colorado near the Continental Divide. The weather report this evening showed the county to the east of us is under a Red Flag Warning for wildfire danger while my county is under a Winter Storm Watch and we are expecting 4-8" of new snow in the mountains tonight. It's June!

June 20, 201114 yr Moderator I lived all over the Southwest. I was born in Tucson, then later moved up the road towards Marana. Later we moved to Albuquerque, then Las Vegas (NV). My Dad was in the Air Force, and had assignments at Davis-Monthan, Kirtland and Nellis AFBs. When he retired, we moved back to his original hometown of San Diego. I entered the A.F. myself after high school, and also wound up in the high desert for three years in Victorville at George AFB (since deactivated)My career brought me to New York state many years ago, but when I eventually retire, I plan to relocate back to Arizona. Looking forward to the day when I can once again enjoy the summer monsoon and "the smell" :( Jim BarrettWhat a coincidence Jim, when I said the high desert I was speaking of Victorville, I just never name the town since a lot of people have never heard of it. I actually graduated from Victor Valley HS in '90 and when I was in high school I was in the Civil Air Patrol and my squadron was based out of George AFB. In fact, at the time I was taking my flying lessons out at Apple Valley airport and one of my flight instructor was renting a room from one of the F-4 pilots based at George. My instructor was able to get me a few hours in the F-4 sim from the guy she was renting from, needless to say it was pretty cool even though the sim was set up for night flying.Being interested in aviation, living in the high desert during those years was pretty cool as I got to see a few space shuttle landings at Edwards, the debut of the B-2, the F-4's in the skies over Victorville all day. Used to love going to the open house/air show at Edwards every year as well. Back then they would open the show with Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier in an F-4 or any number of other jets. Good times I had in those days!!Sean Campbell Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
