Panels

Recommended Posts

I have a small problem with panels. I have downloaded Dash 8 q202 and the guages are very small and very difficult to read. Is there a way to enlarge the panel guages. Possibly by changing the settings in the panel cfg file. If so, how is it done.Ralph

Possibly by changing the settings in the panel cfg file.
That is how it is done.Open panel.cfg in notepad and edit the gauges' layout. The gauges are referenced in this format.Gaugexx=filename!gaugename, x, y, width, heightJust change the numbers to suit your preference, save the file and reload the sim.

But won't this make the guages larger than their holes in the .bmp for the panel?I bought this years ago, and it helped a lot, although I don't recall if it addresses the .bmp sizing issue . . .you may need a photo editing program like photoshop or elements to fix that.http://www.flight1.com/esd-products.asp?product=FSP-ESD-001I think Abacus makes some sort of gauge editing software too. Do a google search and see what you can find.HTH.

Your right Chuck! Its alright if you want to increase the size of free standing gauges IE Cockpit commander ,tcas ,pusback etc. etc. but if the gauges are part of the panel then it would mess up the panel layout. What the poster( and myself actually) needs to no is how to create that magnify option that you see in some panels.Say what you like about the MSoft defaults they are great for actual visbilty and ease of use..cheers Andy

Hi,I don't know the Dash-8 Q202 but as a temporary workaround you can open a small 'internal' window with the [ key. If the plane has a VC, zoom in to that gauge in VC in the internal window. I think I used to use the technique for the ADF gauge in the stock mooney. I have a vague memory of there being no ADF gauge in the 2d panel, only in the VC. The only drawback was that the [ window is obscured by the 2d panel so you have to leave it floating in front of the windscreen.A good graphic editing application is the Gimp, open-source and very similar to Photoshop.Hopefully someone will be able to explain how to create the popup magnified gauge cos where it's utilised it's very useful.Regards,D

I've been using the about $25 US FS Panel Studio since I started with FS. It allows you to resize and drag gauges into position with the panel as a background image. It also can directly link to your image editor for panel editing. You can also modify the panel display settings in FSP. In other words it is a graphical utility. You can also create pop-up windows with it and insert gauges you need in them.Adjustments will be made to the panel.cfg as needed.I've taken a few freeware aircraft and modified the panels with freeware or payware gauge sets using insertion and deletion to make them more realistic. It works with FSX and FS9.fspanelstudio.com is the product home page. I recommend the download version as it is easier to update.http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum13.html is the support forum.

Having read all the responses you realize this isn't as easy as it might be - the easy way (I have old eyes) is to simply change the screen resolution to a value that allows you to see the darn gauges.DJ

Thanks for all the advice. I kept using it and stumbled upon the magnifier feature. I just click on the guage and it enlarges. I believe that messing with panel cfg would only cause problems. I guess the only way to learn is to try. One can always delete and download again.

Hi.I'm pretty sure you wouldn't need to worry about downloading and reinstalling. I think all the suggestions so far will leave all the *.gau and *.cab gauge files intact so you could get away with just making a backup of the specific aircraft folder, possibly even just the panel.cfg. If things went wrong, you'd only have to delete the mess and copy the backup across again.(I think I might splash out on the FS Panel Studio next payday.)Cheers,D
