July 5, 201114 yr I am about to fly the London-Zurich flight as described in the MD-11 tutorial. When ready for take off I can never get the PFD indication "T/O Thrust" .There is the indication " T/O Clamp 6000" on the PFD.I repeated the set up many times and always get the same results.Does anybody know what I am missing or what I do wrong ?For the time being a have to use the keyboard ( F4 ) to advance thethrottle since my Saitek throttle console is being repaired.Could this make a difference ? I do not see how but one never knows.I appreciate your inputHubert Werni
July 5, 201114 yr The throttles will display "T/O Thrust" before takeoff. When you advance the thrust levers, the PFD will display "T/O Clamp" meaning that the thrust levers are locked until 80 knots. The PFD will then display "T/O Thrust" to indicate that the levers are unlocked so you can reject the takeoff or advance for more power. The 6000 is simply the altitude you have set on the MCP. Hope that helps. Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"

Then I would make sure that speed is being controlled by the FMC once you are at 400 feet. Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"

The altitude this should be done is on the T/O page of the FMC and is editable. Engaging PROF will probably work as well but I always tend to use climb thrust as I rarely stick to the SID restrictions. Best Regards, Dan Parkin.
July 6, 201114 yr A screen shot of you lined up ready for takeoff would help spot what it might be, but I would guess that you didn't press the PROF button before you started your take off roll. Paul Smith.

February 18, 201214 yr Problem solved. I forgot to press AutoFlight.Hi guysI am new to this MD-11 as well and also have some problems adapting myself from the NGX and 747X. On Page 103 on the System Manual it says that AUTOFLIGHT can not "engage" below AGL100 and that is fine but why does MD11 have the same switch for both AUTOTHROTTLE and AP?You have SHIFT+R and Z, so hitting Autoflight during your cruize how would you know which one you have disengaged on the MCP ?I know there are buttons on yoke and throttles 1+3 but i still can get it :-)btw,AP1 or AP2 how do you know which one will engaged during climb out/takeoff ? sometimes it is AP2 and vice versaThanksMichael Michael Moe

February 20, 201214 yr i found this one :-)http://support.preci...-the-md-11.aspx/michaelYup, that is a very good article....you have to remember the MD11 is a hybrid....somewhere between Airbus philosophy and Boeing, but definitely McDonnell Douglas!!! It is a highly automated and integrated bird....one press of Autoflight to arm autothrottle and autopilot, and a second press to fully engage it...to disengage remember to press the yellow button on the yoke and the button on the side of the thottle handle...NOT the master disengage on the autopilot panel!
