July 14, 201114 yr Hi,I use REX and I use ASE as the weather engine. Problem is that sometimes ASE injects default clouds which are ugly. How do I prevent ASE from injecting default clouds ?ThanksVic
July 14, 201114 yr Hi,ASE doesn't have cloud textures unless you have formed Snapshots in ASE and submitted one to FSX. By itself ASE will do nothing with any textures.Order should be REX and submit clouds to FSX, close REX. Start ASE and keep it running. Then start FSX.FYI, once FSX is started there is only ONE texture that can be updated in FSX that you can see during that FSX session. I wonder who knows what texture that is?
July 14, 201114 yr I sort of had this problem whenI thought REX clouds were being correctly copied into the Texture folder. They were not as the default cloud texture files were marked as "Read" only and couldn't be copied over. This was using Windows 7. Make sure that the REX cloud files are correctly being copied into FSX's Texture folder and overwriting the default cloud files. ASE doesn't care whether the clouds are default or REX like Jim wrote.
July 14, 201114 yr Vic,If you have selected 4096 HD clouds you also have to reflect that it the FSX.cfg in first section where the default entry is =1024 (Sorry, not at home at moment or I would provide the proper info). \Robert Hamlich/

I wonder who knows what texture that is?I'll take a guess, even though I don't know what you mean by updated?Cumulus01.bmp since it contains 16 variations in one bmp?My second guess was going to be Cirrus_overcast03.bmp since it can be changed by the ASE UI. July 15, 201114 yr Good job guys! It is the cirrus cloud texture. That is why even with ASv6.5 and FS04 we could keep updating those cirrus textures with FS running. I guess some of my posts are read!!Sorry, no prize involved.PS You can update all the other textures, but you must re-start FS in order to see the changed textures.

I have updated all my clouds with X Graphics, have those now been written into FSX as my default textures? I got some great looking clouds flying into Orlando this afternoon. Thunderheads and lots of cumulus clouds everywhere with ASE. Did not use snapshot.Bob
July 15, 201114 yr Author Thanks for answering folks. I just noticed that I installed REX in the "Program Files (x86)" dir. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it in c:\REX. Let's see if I still get those default clouds.
July 15, 201114 yr Author Problem solved. Reinstalling rex away from the "evil" win7 directories did the trick.

You now have textures from XG as your default textures in FSX. XG saved your installed set of textures the first time you ran XG if you ever needed to go back.
