July 15, 201114 yr Commercial Member T/O on Rwy 26R using an assumed temperature of 34C. Shuttle 2914 position and hold Rwy 26R. :( Gatwick has never ever used 26R for the active runway man, it serves only as a taxiway.. Hence Gatwick is the largest single runway airport in the world...ooops? Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK
July 15, 201114 yr :( Gatwick has never ever used 26R for the active runway man, it serves only as a taxiway.. Hence Gatwick is the largest single runway airport in the world...ooops?Sorry, that's wrong. 26r is a runway and can be used as such. I've landed on it when there had been wip. It's just not routinely used.CheersCraig B.
July 15, 201114 yr 26R/08L is only operation when 26L/08R is out of use but it is still active. Gavin Price
July 15, 201114 yr 26L was closed recently for WIP, so 26R was used instead. Under normal ops, 26R is more or less a taxiway.I'm more interested in the "position and hold" at a UK aerodrome and the ficticious Gatwick VOR! ;)Guessing the OP was using voxATC/Radar contact or similar.OP, any chance of pics of the leggy blonde?
July 15, 201114 yr Hi, All good stories have a happy ending. The nub of this one is the last question. "Will she fly". My question is "Did she fly" and what was the final analysis - good or bad. richard welsh. Richard Welsh
July 15, 201114 yr I enjoyed that very much. Thank you for taking the time to place us at the controls in our minds eye. For me personally this is a SID I use regularly, so had no trouble picturing what you described so well, Gatwick is my base. Mike Summers
July 15, 201114 yr Author Sorry- as an old colonial, a transplant to the Americas and a generally addled mind, I got "Position and Hold" vs. "Line up and wait" mixed up :(. As far as 26R- yes, it happens to be used occasionally, and I'm all for the path less travelled. The Gatwick VOR was indeed another brain-fart it was supposed to be the IWW LOC/DME for 26L. My thanks for the clarifications. My only excuse is my unbridled enthusiasm for a truly revolutionary product, and a very long day. I shall be more careful with my words in the future.Yes- she does fly- exquisitely.......but that's a story for a day after a bit more sleep....... Best- Carl Avari-Cooper
July 15, 201114 yr My only excuse is my unbridled enthusiasm....Long may it last, Carl! :biggrin:And sincere thanks for sharing it with us. Cheers,Brian
