Thanks. Is there any kind of work around for getting Vsync to work in windowed mode with FS9? That's how I usually fly. I'm certainly pleased with my progress so far but unfortunately it's only most-noticeable in full screen mode.

That one I can't help you with, only run full screen and have my charts etc... on a cheap 2nd machine... Actually 2 cheap 2nd machines ;)

For laughs, tried a completely fresh install of FS9 on a separate drive with the default cfg as well. No joy unfortunately. So I am beginning to suspect Vsync or some kind of settings more and more.

Personally I have to disagree with the above... The only time I get butter smooth is at 60fps. 24FPS will always look choppy and horrible on my boxThe way I achieve 60 FPS is Nvidia profile with16xs AAHighest AFSuper Transparency enabledHigh Quality graphics settingVSync App controlledFS FPS unlocked. The combination of Vsync locking FPS to 60 (the refresh of my monitor) plus unlocked FPS within FS produces absolutely butter smooth results. Using FSFK I get AVG's of 59.9fps takeoff 60.00fps crz 59.9fps Landing. The best result is AI going past you at 60 FPS when they go shooting past without so much as a stutter...Everyone gets different results on different boxes though, that is just what works for me.
with 16x AA, is AA inside FS enabled? I always use FS9's AA along with 4x AA in nVidia driver setting. Turning AA inside FS9 doesn't affect FPS at all, if not little. Should I turn off the AA instead, and use only from driver setting? I read years ago that turning AA more than 4x is over-killing. So i never set it more than 4x. I have Geforce 9800GT 1GB 256 bit.Thanx

I personally have not seen much visual benefit with anymore than about 4x or 8x AA from Inspector. And either way, I get the choppiness/stuttering I describe above in windowed-mode regardless.

Hello CaptKornDog,Germany is calling. I am suffering from exactly the same issue since I upgraded from my former E6750 to an i5-750 with according motherboard and memory two years ago. Back then I kept my XFX 8800 GT. Intermittently, I upgraded to an i7-2600 with Asus MB and DDR3 4GB, but the problem remains. But I have this problem not with all aircrafts. The default LearJet works fine for me (at least with 30 FPS). But when I switch to the default B737 or, for example, to the PMDG 737-800 everything but 60 FPS is unsmooth (even 30 FPS). It can be especially observed while turning on the ground.I tried to get some help from the German community but it is really hard to make the problem clear to them. A lot of people think that this is due to a lack of resources. Obviously, it isn’t. Because otherwise I was not able to fly jerk-free at 60FPS. But locking my FS to, for example, 58 FPS brings me horrible stuttering.I tried a lot of “medicine” but nothing seems to help. I really want to fly again as fine as I was able to do with my older and weaker system two years ago. I remember that I locked my system at 35 FPS and it was pretty smooth. But today …. :sad:Maybe we can work along to fix this crap. Thanks in advance.Best regards,Tobias

Sadly the same thing has been happening to me since I moved my flightsim setup abroad last week :( It's a very fast system, put it all back together again and have high FPS but a strange stutter, have checked everything I can think off, the sim is tuned perfectly and has been for years.I've tested different memory sticks, checked the GPU (560ti 1gig) checked the CPU (I7 clocked at 4.5ghz) I am in the proccess of doing a stress test on my PC with Prime95. Will see what it says in 20 hours or so.All pretty annoying to say the least..

Just a quick msg for anyone searching the forum in the future with a similar problem. After stress testing the CPU I found that the heat sink was faulty and the CPU was running hot. Bought a new one and now the sim is smooth as silk again. So it's worth checking if your running out of ideas.Regards

Well, since starting this thread, I've made some progress. I'm still continuously playing the "what helps with blurries and what are truly placebos" game. However, I currently am able to fly full-screen mode relatively stutter free (even at some locales like FSDT PHNL without too much weather)...even though I hate flying full-screen mode just because of the VATSIM and other clients I have open and need to access. The one lingering question I have is: is there anyone with tips out there on how to improve windowed-mode? I see some people are claiming that windowed-mode flies smoother than full-screen, and while I think it's probably hardware more than anything, perhaps someone has some recommendations for nVidia Inspector, Windows, or fs9.cfg settings to be able to achieve this (I'm willing to sacrifice for stutters in full-screen mode to fly smooth in windowed :P).

Thanks.

Try using Invidia inspector with Vsync set to 1/2 refresh rate and Adaptive. Set FS9 framelimiter to 30 or 1/2 of whatever your monitor refresh rate is. Assuming one has the 301 driver and latest NI for Nvidia cards. Seems to be doing some good in my FS2004 windowed mode. I run FSX full screen.

ArDee

Update your audio/soundcard drivers, I have found this out twice. Real smoooooth now.

Word Not Allowed's post about the cfg file from Holger and the german scenery guru made in his 500 page document. Helped nicely!

I'll look for the post. :Nerd:

Does vSync even work in windowed-mode, conclusions on here have been "undetermined" at best in that regard for FS9?
