nVIDIA drivers

Hi, friends! For some time I have been experiencing performance problems with my FS9.1I get some stuttering / micro-freezing and fluctuating FPS. The stutters are very annoying, especiallny when on finals. At the moment I have my FPS locked at 24, but previously had them at 35 and even unlimited - without a noticeable difference. My video card is an nVIDIA GeForce 8800GT. Currently I have the latest drivers installed (275.33) and I am using nvidia Inspector (1.9.5.5.) set according to Nick's advice.I tried various things to fight with the stutters, including uninstalling unused addons, limiting cloud texture size and format, turning off my antivir (avast!), disabling unnecessary applications, defragmenting, etcLooks like there is some general improvement but when I land manually and get the stutters it drives me nuts. FPS are not bad, sometimes good sometimes acceptable. But the stuttering/pausing.... Nail%20Biting.gifI cannot remember the exact moment the stutters appeared but it is a relatively fresh thing. I did install/uninstal some addons in the meantime, and had probably twoi latest versions of video drivers.Unfortunately I am unable to link the stutters to any particular action I took. Then I think of video drivers. So my question is: which version drivers are you using for your nvidia video cards?I know the old saying: latest is not always best. I will willingly try some older drivers, but there are too many to experiment with each. I'm hoping to hear some suggestions if you did experience similar problems and cured (eased) them with some previous drivers. Thanks a lot in advance!FS9.1UTE, GEPII, FSUIPC (reg), ASE, RCv4, Active Camera, FSRecorder, FSG mesh, AI (WOAI & custom), many airports, ASA320, iFly 737NG, PMDG 744Windows XP 32bit PL SP33GB switch IntelCore 2 Duo E8400 3GHznvidia GeForce 8800GT4GB RAM

I think it is unlikely to be the drivers - but you may be putting moreload on your system than previously, with traffic, weather, high AA settings etcIf it only happens on final, it could have to do with loading of airport texturesor sound files, or AI traffic..If it happens randomly, it is likely a program starting up in the background.I once had to turn off Java prefetching which would occur every 10 minutes or so.It started after a Java update. The only way to catch that, is to have Procmon running and examining it when the pause occurs.

Hi, Bert! Thanks a lot for your immediate reply and some good advice.

It started after a Java update.
I will definitely check that!

I do have ProcessMonitor, but haven't really used it much. Now I will. Thanks again and all the best.

Try 182.50, best drivers
Wow, they are more than 2 years old! :blink:Anyway, following the rule 'the latest is not always the greatest', I think will give it a try. There's nothing to lose. Thanks a lot, mad dog!

HelloSo was my 8800 ultra . These were the drivers recommended by N.Needham and they always were the most stable for me.They would have been written around the time the 8800's were current so I would guess that they will be better for that card than drivers optimised for the 4 and 5 series

Hey Rafal! It's been a while, my friend.... how's life treating you? As for the stutters, this may be a long shot, but it helped me in the past. Just for kicks, temporarily move all .dll's that are not needed away from the Modules folder. Fly to and from an airport that doesn't have it's own .dll, fly an add-on airplane that does not require it's own .dll (if there is such one!) and see what happens. As you know I am running separate start files for each and every add-on aircraft (a simple batch file will do) and in these batch files I first copy the required .dll back to the Modules folder, start FS and upon exiting, I move the said .dll away to a safe place again. In this way my Modules folder is (relatively) uncluttered with just a few .dll's besides the ones that came with FS9 itself.Good luck! :smile:Jure

True and sounds very logical. I will definitely give it a try - nothing to lose. The only downside is (I guess) I will have to drop nvidiaInspector and come back to nHancer.

Hey, Jure! I'm fine, thank you very much.I hope you are also OK and happy there in Ljubljana.

You won't believe it but this is exactly what I did last night (I found 5 unnecessary modules). I have yet to test the result in a flight today.

I have always admired your professionalism, Jure. :smile:Thanks for your replies, mates!
