Lucid' Virtu

Featured Replies

As my new processor nudges closer and closer from a New Jersey warehouse, I'm doing a lot of research in preparation for my new toys.I'm curious as to what some of you capable Z68 owners think about Lucidlogix virtu software. I like the idea of being able to utilize all of my 2600K's features, including the Quick Sync, etc (even if I never use them). Anyone using this software and how? iGPU? dGPU? Is it more a gimmick or what? I'm really curious as to rather or not the software is maturing quickly.

I don't use the Virtu Software. Tried it and it is useless for me. However, I do use the iGPU for my second monitor. This is great for a couple of reasons:1. The 2nd monitor being connected to a 2nd GPU keeps my GTX580 temp idle at 40C. Otherwise if I connect a second monitor to the GTX580 the temp. goes up to 56C idle. That is unacceptable.2. Also I can now use the 2nd monitor for a full GPS navigation with PlanG and the main monitor remains full screen in FSX.Don't use quick sync nor SSD cache. My system runs on a 240g SSD.So, I like the features of the Z68.Pierre

I have yet to install the Virtu software/driver as I wanted to spend several weeks making sure my system was stable and happy. If it provides a significant advantage for encoding video in Windows Live Movie Maker, I'll use it, but otherwise I have no need for it. As for QuickSync, it will never be as fast as a dedicated SSD and I think it's limited to 40GB SSDs or less. Anyway, I'm not using that either. The Deluxe actually doesn't have video-out on the motherboard, so unlike PPO's mobo, i-mode doesn't apply here. That is a nice argument for going with the Pro instead of the Deluxe, not to mention it's cheaper!

Yikes! I thought you couldn't have both the IGP and the discrete GPU working at a time.

Indeed, they work just fine at the same time: a. IGP has to be enabled in UEFI(bios);b. Intel Graphics Driver has to be installed;c. Connect your 2nd LCD to IGP (using DVI here);d. Go into Windows Screen Resolution section and select multiple displays "Extend these displays".Voilà,the trick is done. You want more: I want the 2nd LCD to display my GPS/map display while I have FSX in Full Screen:a. Do a Google search for FS-SIMtimizer-1.1.0.zip;b. Install the utility;c. Make a shortcut for it on the desktop;d. Start it before FSX;e. (the DLL will be loaded with FSX);f. Play around with Full Screen/Windowed mode;g. You will eventually get to a full 3D screen on monitor 1 and the 2nd monitor will be available at the desktop (not black);h. Start-up your GPS/map application (I use PlanG) Sync and know where you are flying;note: doing it this way frees the GTx580 from an overhead of 16 deg C because it does not have a 2nd monitor connected.Pierre

Thanks for the info Pierre

Thanks everyone for the input. I'm thinking I'll rarely use the feature, though I'll probably set it up and test it. Once the honeymoon phase is over it will be back to homework and Flight Sim duty. ^_^

I have thought about using iGPU feature as well but was not quite sure what to do with it. Are you able to still extend your desktop to another screen? If so I may switch my second monitor over and use it for some 2D panels that I move. I do fly in Full Screen mode.Mark.

Yes Mark, you can do all these things. Please read my post for "How to do it"With IGPU the second monitor is "managed" by "Intel" (the graphic driver itself) and Microsoft Windows (which "sees" the extra monitor and allows you to extend your desktop if you so desire or use it as your main desktop. So when you right click on your desktop you will see one more section besides "Screen Resolution" & "Nvidia CP" : Graphic Properties and Graphic options for the IGPU.Note: to use your second monitor in 2d while you have FSX full screen on 1st monitor, you need to use the utility FS-SIMtimizer. And it is a little tricky to get working at first. But I will be monitoring this thread and if you need any help I will try to answer your questions.Pierre

Thanks so much for the info on FS-SIMtimizer! After moving over to FSX I was a little devastated that my second monitor was of no use to me any more, as I'd always found in invaluable with FS9 for displaying charts/squawkbox ect. Great to know that there's a solution to this problem.Do you know if it will work when using the ENB mod? I ask as this uses another d3d DLL which may not be compatible.

Thanks for the information, I will give it a try. Actually I am OK with the second monitor in full screen mode as that is how I have it now. Mark.

No, sorry. Not tested with ENB. However, the FS-SIM dll seems to behave well: it loads up with FSX and unloads itself after FSX closes down. However, if you try it with ENB, let us know how they behave together.Note: I don't use ENB, I rather use preset kb Macros to Adjust Brightness/Contrast on the monitor. Which PRO version? My P8P67 Pro doesn´t have an DVI video out. Or do you mean Z68 Pro?

Best regards, Steffen

None of the P67s have DVI out because none of the P67s support the IGPU. He's referring to the Z68.
