Vertical Situation Display

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the info on the vertical situation display. The detail and precision that PMDG has achieved in this aircraft is stunning. Once real-world NG pilots get their hands on this software to practice procedures, they will have no excuse for ever busting a checkride on the real thing!Just curious... since Reno is the home base of a certain key PMDG team member, when you land at the virtual KRNO, and park on the virtual ramp, does a virtual Robert Randazzo appear to greet you, and collect the test data from your flight? :( Jim Barrett

I know it's been written by others before and it has nothing to do with the topic either, however, I just can't used to the look of the center-post. The depth and the perspective of the whole 2D panel is way less impressive when compared to PMDG's own MD-11 and 747. I understand that PMDG is basically done with the development of the 2D stuff, but just a small adjustment on the center post can make a huge difference in the way the whole thing looks. There is still time to make it look the way us 2D panel flyers want to see, and I belive it's not a BIG request either.Bozhanedit: looking to the 2d panel shots again and I realize I may have been a bit harsh with my comment above since I don't have the product just yet, but the request for the center post stands still.

The center post is not changing, sorry - it's an unrealistic perspective either way that we do it and this is the option we chose. I don't think it looks bad at all considering the fact that other parts of the panel are also in an unrealistic perspective in 2D too. I sort of like the consistency of seeing it all head on vs. having the MCP head on but the post angled.

Hey Bozhan. I USED to be a huge 2D fan. I refused to even give the VC a chance. then PMDG cam out with the J41 and I was impressed. Then this NGX was given to me and, quite honestly, I feel like I am at work. Speaking of that, Robert you owe me 2 months flight pay! Don't make me go union on your....behind! J/k. But honestly, its that real! If you can afford it, get yourself a TrackIR. Some of the best money I have spent on FS and it will come in handy for other sims such as DCS.if you are into that.JackColwill

Are you talking about "framing" the pop-up panel? I don't see how that could make the least bit of difference. To me, if I select a pop-up panel, it's just to have a close look at it. It certainly is not to see a frame or border which would not serve any function. With TrackIR and EZCam, you really don't even need pop-up panels. I like having them as an option, even if they are not realistic, but they are not really needed. This is a great post Jane, and I really appreciate pointing out this VSD feature to us. Thank you. It looks amazing, like everything on this NGX. I'm anticipating this airplane so much, it hurts.Bob

Thanks Jane for sharing this very instructional material!I am a little "concerned" with something raised by Jane´s post and also concerning HUD operation posted before by someone else. How can we learn all the details and functionalities of the VSD, HUD and other more complex (and unusual for us simmers) displays? I guess the tutorial will cover part of the information available, but how can we study and learn their thorough operations? Does this come with the documentation? Thanks!

Hey Jim, not only should there be a virtual RSR to collect data, he should hand out airsickness bags. I have had some VERY rough approaches into the real Reno courtesy of winds around those mountains. I often think I would rather land in SFO and walk ;) Yet RSR flies around there for fun with his aircraft! He needs to hand out virtual certificates to every virtual pilot who lands there in one piece without breaking the NGX :)JR

Hi Jack, Do you use trackIR with EZdok or just on it's own. I already have EZdok and I am thinking of getting trackIR and I was wondering if that would give me the most realistic cockpit experience with the NGX?

Just think how much more could be achieved if M$ had got there weather engine correct in FS. As for the centre post in 2D it's always going to be a compromise as it is with all 2D panels.Superb illustrations there Jane and much appreciated - with each snippet I feel more humble and honoured that anything this mind-bogglingly good can be produced.Truly amazing.John Ellison
