Questions about new Yoke/throttle purchase

Featured Replies

Get PFC desktop yoke and you'll never look back for these cheap ch and saitek yoke which I used to own.
I'd have to agree 110% like I've said many times, we spend sooo much (at least I do) on add-ons and the like, but seem to have an issue buying higher quality/more $$$ hardware. After starting on my Instrument ticket I decided it was time to invest in something a bit better. The PFC beech yoke has made ALL the difference, and I consider it one of the best investments for FS yet. I can understand why some would steer clear of such expensive hardware, but for those that take this hobby as seriously as I do, you wouldn't be disappointed :) Although I must admit, my Saitek flight yoke was certainly better than nothing, and I used it for a long time before making the switch to something better. But for those considering an upgrade, I would have NO problem recommending the PFC products. Now if I could just convince the lady in charge that I need the rudder pedals, I'd be in hog heaven :( Also, has anyone noticed the new Saitek trim wheel and Cessna branded products? That trim wheel sure looks nice! Good day all!

I just purchased this about a week ago, http://www.simpilot....se-Yoke/Detail. CH Eclipse YokeWith pedals, so hoping ok. Now wondering if I made the correct choice after reading this thread. I purchased through the avsim store as was $200 cheaper than PC aviator in OZ.

Get the TM Warthog HOTAS. No pots, no problems!Another option is the TM T.16000 if you want a very reliable and precise stick as it uses the same tech as the Warthog. My MS SideWinder 1 non-FF is as good as the day I bought it on the axis and it is 12 years old. It uses optical sensing. The buttons however have started failing though they still work.Best regards,Robin.
He wants a yoke and throttles, not a joystick...Bert Van Bulck

As I said before - I'm pretty pleased with the Saitek yoke. But for the quad, I'm getting more and more hooked on this: http://www.throttletek.com/. Don't know how it will work with the NGX, though...

Thanks for the responses, guys. It looks like the consensus winner is Saitek. I'll probably start off with their pro yoke (w/throttles) and pro rudders, and buy a 2nd set of throttles at a later date.

Exactly what I did! You'll like it. If it's your first time using a yoke in sim, you'll have to get used to it. After a good few hours of touch and goes, it becomes second nature. The added second quadrant took the yoke "fun" to the next level, don't miss that! Especially on aircraft like the A2A 377.

Zach, Most of the flying I'll be doing will be the PMDG (NGX, MD11, 747) and Level-D (767). Perhaps some default Cessnas/King Air when I want a change of pace. I'm sure I'll have fun trying to configure the hardware and learning how to fly with it. sad.png

little advice: you can buy a bundle. You get the Saitek Pro Yoke with one throttle quadrant and the pedals for approx 270 USD. Search the internet for "saitek yoke bundle". All the best! Peter Burghardt

I use the Saitek set up and I am very happy with it. YokeSwitch panel with landing gear handleThrottle (I have the left one set up and speed brake, the middle as the throttle, and the right as the flaps handle)Rudder

Thanks,

I tried the Saitek yoke but it has a weird center detent problem. Using the CH yoke with the Saitek pedals works well for me.

The CH felt overly cheap to me, unfortunately. Plastic all over. I was stuck with it for 3 years until it completely gave up calibration. I aim to replace my CH Rudder Pedals with Saitek's offering. Preferably the new Cessna line. The Saitek's center throws my pilot friends off at first (as it did me) but after a few hours I was used to it.http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/cessnapedals.html

PCAviator has the Pro Yoke system (along with the throttles) for $149.95. The Pro rudder pedals sell for $119.95. That's $269.90, purchased separately. I didnt see any bundles discounts anywhere for less than that.

Yeah, but think shipping price.

this hurts: we stil -kind of- remember what we had to pay for the CH yoke, throttle and rudder together when there was no Saitek??? Bert Van Bulck
I tried the Saitek yoke but it has a weird center detent problem. Using the CH yoke with the Saitek pedals works well for me.
I seem to be one of few individuals that actually prefer the CH yoke instead of the Saitek one. My reasons for this is that although the CH yoke has a weak Y-axis center (you can pull and push the yoke about half a centimeter back and forth with little pressure and thus it is harder to trim the airplane to level flight) it doesn't have that deadzone detent thing that the Saitek yoke I own (yes I own both of them) has. So what this means is that when I am for example on approach, or following the flight director the Saitek yoke feels very clumsy and it is hard to do smooth manouvers without over adjusting the pitch or roll. I have read about this problem on the internet, so I don't seem to be the only one having it, but I have also read about people, on avsim for example, that doesn't have the same issue. In any case, I'm more satisfied with my CH yoke than the Saitek, but I like the Saitek throttle "quadrant" very much and bought a standalone version of it so that I can use my CH yoke and the Saitek throttle.
