August 2, 201114 yr I don't know, but I do not think I want to. Are there many dangers in over clocking a machine like this? You'll have to open the case & install an aftermarket CPU cooler. If it'll fit. If not then don't risk OC'ing with the stock cooler. Another consideration is that you'll probably void the warranty. As far as I know, and I could be wrong, you'll be able to OC but only when in windows, OSX won't let you.EDIT: find the model number of your motherboard & do a search on overclocking guides for it. If it can be done, someone has probably already done it. Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64
August 2, 201114 yr I have the 747X by PMDG, and I love it. A little rough on the fps, but overall, not too bad! Also, it seems that PMDG might have optimized the NGX for better frames the the 747, so it could be the same or even better! Thanks for all of the comments. -Sam Cordell Exactly what I'm saying. If you can get to a point where you run 747X smooth, you should be right I think. Regarding frame rate, you might want to try Bajate's tweak + some texture swapping. I can start another thread or we can do this via PM regarding how I personally tweaked my system. But if you have already done it, then just leave it at that. August 2, 201114 yr Folks, you shouldn't expect stellar performance on mobile platforms with mobile parts. Unfortunately you have to take what you can get. The same goes for lower end graphics cards and lower clocked CPUs. -In the OP's case, the low end graphics card will hold you back as far as graphical IQ settings go. Things like AA, AF, heavy autogen, high water settings, and bloom mods should be avoided. -Apparently you're either running the i7 870 or 875k. You've got a great processor, but at those stock speeds heavy autogen, scenery, and any traffic will murder the FPS. -I think you should be able to run FSX comfortably. Rather or not FSX will run decent is dependent on personal preference (duh ). I wouldn't be happy with it, but then I have a friend that is perfectly happy running FSX on his relatively slower laptop. BTW I've been thinking about a Mac Book of some type... Any suggestions? ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
August 2, 201114 yr Nick, who I believe has an i7 2600k, in the latest AOA video said that he gets 45 fps locked with the NGX, and manages 30 fps while recording with FRAPS in HD. I know that Nick's computer is pretty stout, but those are still encouraging numbers. Shane Gavin
August 2, 201114 yr ok, one question from me first, here's my pc:intel q6600 @3.15 GHz (%30 OC)ocz 2+2 GB DDR2 1066 MHzpalit geforce 9800gt 1 GBwin7 ultimate i have a js41 and i can see max 14 fps when i fly in vc. i saw that ngx has fantastic detailed vc and i wonder that what will happen to fps? some says it will be better than js41 but i'm not sure. if so, how? ngx is newer product than js41 and usually newer softwares need more specs. so, it's expected that ngx needs more powerful pcs. now then i can get only max 9-10 fps i think, so what do you think? August 2, 201114 yr Ugur, The NGX has gone through a lot of optimisation so that you get as much FPS as possible.... PMDG have said that since they started the NGX project, they have really started to understand FSX optimisation.Of course depends on your sliders and setting.... you're not on an amazing PC, but if you lower the sliders you ought to see a nice smooth simulation. Hi, All I can tell you is that my previous system was pretty similar to yours.I had an ASUS P5QC + Q9550 2.93GHz (OC'ed @ 3.7GHz) + ATI HD4870 + 4GB 1333MHzWith that system, in addition to *******' tweaks and some other minor tweakings, I could get a steady 20fps (VC view) with the PMDG 747 in heavy airports like Aerosoft's Charles de Gaule or Heathrow (with the MD11 it was even 3-4fps more). That was with autogen set on 'dense' and scenery on 'very dense'.I think that if your MB allows DDR3 RAM that would, in addition to a slightly higher OC (if possible), get you closer, if not over, 20fps.
