I see. Apparently it's a little different than that of my friend's "on call" way. He is rostered, just not for the trip weeks in advanced. Be safe!cool.png
I think it could be an airline specific way of doing things. :-)

you must be talking about being on reserve

Well I do have standbys and all that but my roster is given one month in advance so as to give us time to plan ahead for family and friend events... The transatlantic roster is fairly stable though [Although inter-european rosters can get a bit messy as I've recently re-discovered]... I know alot of Ryanair fellas though who spend the vast majority of the winter season on standby, what's worse is that they don't get paid when they're not flying, unlike us, that's part of the reason Ryanair and MOL are having such a difficult time staffing their routes now since the airlines in the sandpit started hiring experienced pilots....

I'm telling ya what, I somehow manage to be put on the DUB -> LHR route for my first week there last month, My first time being on proper short haul in 2 years and I manage to get 6 sector days stuck with some kid who's only been in the company for 5 months!!!!! Even worse on the 3rd day, the crew that was supposed to be doing the next DUB -> LHR rotation managed to get sick, so I had to do 8 sectors in one day waiting for the standby crew be called in!!!!! But most the time it's grand....

your cleared to line up for takeoff on the runway and the captain asks for the checklist, he is not talking about doing the taxi checklist again....
laugh.png that should have been a looong day indeed... Thanks for sharing, I appreciated it a lot and if you want it would be really precious to read these short stories again if you care. ..and pls remember, for the sake of safety, reading 2-3 time the taxi checklist will grant 120% that parking brakes are released LOL.gif ...just to be definitely sure laugh.png

If I'm moving down the taxiway at 20kts, then I had better hope the park brake was released, or those engines must be seriously over powered...Thinking.gif

What pushes a real pilot to spend time also on simulations ? Would you mind pls to release when you have 5 minutes a short story about a bad weather approach and or bad situation you faced during your career ? It may sounds boring but you know even a story based on a punctured wheel may attract our attention ! Thanks in advance
