August 13, 201114 yr I never once touched a VNAV button in 20 years.. v/s mode is much better.. In FSX though, if you have sudden wind changes, I imagine VNAV will overreact and pitch to control airspeed. Probably why you stalled..Then you are probably not the best person to give advice to some looking for help with VNAV, are you? And no, v/s is not 'so much better', but you will never find out, will you. Paul Smith.

August 13, 201114 yr Are you setting your stab trim before takeoff? With trim set, the aircraft should be climbing without holding back pressure on the yoke. You cannot set CMD while holding back pressure with realistic autopilot setting. Also, I really don't believe you are supposed to set VNAV on the ground. LNAV, you can set if the route is close to the take off heading, but VNAV should be set in the air. Robert Yunque
August 14, 201114 yr I've been flying since 1991 gents.. I do a LOT of manual flying and it's encouraged and only required to use APP when certain minimums apply and no autoland, must take manual control above 50 feet on a Cat3.. Technology is great, but when you learn in the -200, a lot of it sticks with you.. I agree LVL CHANGE works fine, but I guess the flight instructor in me encourages people to learn how to fly the aircraft.. I apologize..
August 17, 201114 yr Author No worries I know where you're coming from. Sometimes the virtual pilots think they know best about their virtual planes hehe. I think on the NG they end up using vnav much more often.
