August 7, 201114 yr Is there any way to shut off all the annoying systems? (so they stop screaming in my ear and it doesn't crash at land because I don't have throttle control)
August 7, 201114 yr Sorry "yacinexm" you need to be more specific and then they'll be people on here who can help you. Best Regards, Dan Parkin.
August 7, 201114 yr Commercial Member Is there any way to shut off all the annoying systems? (so they stop screaming in my ear and it doesn't crash at land because I don't have throttle control)Sir, those systems usually are not annoying at all, if one knows how to use them. It looks like you didn't bother at all to read at least small parts of the manuals. Nor did you bother to fly at least the first tutorial flight it seems. We'll be glad to help you, but you have to show some effort on your side too. Cheers,Markus Markus Burkhard

August 8, 201114 yr Author If you think this is annoying, dont fly such an aircraft. Its fine to use with autopilot. For the autothrottle auto engage "Problem", See herehttp://forum.avsim.n...ottle-question/ I got so far, but it would just re-connect itself
August 8, 201114 yr First of all - annoying reminder to sign your full name! ok, but thats up to you. I will not hammer you with recomendation to really read the manuals (or at least watch some tutorial videos), but I should, man I should... Speaking about A/T on MD11 - keep in mind that this plane is NOT meant to be used without autothrottle and full manual. That's what cessnas are made for! :) As described in other topic (given by Ronan) it will engage if you 1) push AUTOFLIGHT, 2) Press PROF, then later when airborne A/T will kick in, 3)get too slow (critical speed). As far as I rememmber also it will autoengage if you are not PROPERLY configured for landing (someone correct me if wrong)! Here is the suggestion:If you wish to fly the take-offs and landings manually do it, but keep the A/T on. It will help you a lot and thats how its meant to be flown. DON'T use those 2 switches to disengage whole autoflight system, because those are used only under specific emergency procedures. Dont use those like you do in a Boeing. When you wish to disengage the autopilot (not the A/T), just press twice (because pressing once will disconnect A/P, but it will keep yelling at you) the A/P disengage button on keyboard. It will let you do the handflying and A/T system will still operate the engines.Hope this helps. Sorry if I get you wrong! Give it (MD11) some time and get used to it. Fantastic bird to fly! ;) Regards,
August 10, 201114 yr Author The problem is, it will auto engage just before, or after landing and slowing down a MD-11 with full engine power kinda impossible.
August 10, 201114 yr The problem is, it will auto engage just before, or after landing and slowing down a MD-11 with full engine power kinda impossible.I think the problem is that you don't actually want to take the time to learn how to use it correctly. Aerosoft does an A320 simulation which is very pretty but doesn't have any of these 'annoying' systems you have to learn. You might get more pleasure from that. Paul Smith.
August 10, 201114 yr @Namjes Ofcourse the MD11 was made to fly the plane by hand and let the AT control the thrust. But it is also normal that the pilots do both by their own. Ofcourse you can set everytimes ILS and autopilot and autothrust at nice sunshine and 0 wind but when you loose that systems you have big problems because you have no training in handflying the plane. So it is normal to fly the plane with AP and AT off. Best regards John John Rubens
August 11, 201114 yr You are flying too slowly. That Nanny is kicking in and attempting to save your &@($*. This is a simulation of the real MD-11. The real bird has a lot of extra weight in the back due to the engine being mounted back there. As a result, if you get too slow, it is almost impossible to get back to a good pitch for landing without going around. In approach phase the MD-11's flight envelope is much smaller than most commercial aircraft, it simply does not forgive as easily. This is why so many MD-11's have bounced on landing and crashed or caused significant damage. Even if you have the vspeeds calculated by the FMC, the thrust nanny is kicked in by angle of attack. If it gets too high you stall. Stall an airliner on approach in real life, you die. Lastly to Namejs, due to the idiosyncrasies of the small flight envelope of the MD-11 (primarily caused by its very small tailplane). McDonald Douglass put out a recommendation to airlines to encourage pilots to completely hand fly the MD-11 to cruise so that they could learn the handling characteristics. Not all airlines adopted this policy, but it is interesting to note. Branton Turner
