August 8, 201114 yr Alexander posted on this, I'm experiencing it for sure and don't with any other planes. Will be flying along for maybe 20 seconds then sudden drop from 30 FPS (at altitude ;o)), and she will drop to 6fps, the video stops, then immediately picks right back up to 30 again. Insert any other baseline frame rate as the 'normal' one, for example I am seeing right at 20-22 in larger terminals when the mouse pointer is not displaying. I can't say for sure on the time interval (every 20 sec) nor if it happens the entire duration of a flight, but it is frequently occurring. In my experience, this happens with big hard drive activity, however I was unable to run filemon.exe on Vista64 for some reason as I had previously when doing some troubleshooting. Of note, recently defragged my drives w/ my preferred utility, PerfectDisk. And again, this does not happen w/ any other planes inc PMDG 747, etc. I'd like to find out if this is broad enough to try to bring to PMDG's attention, or if Alex and I are relatively alone in this. It is pretty unfortunate since overall, the NGX is running quite well on my rig. Thanks in advance! August 8, 201114 yr If this is happening in a relatively long (seconds are ages in a modern processor's context) time cyclethen I'd say its something ELSE your system is doing that is preempting the simulator. Vista is goingto be an uncommon environment these days, back when I ran it there were lots of annoying thingsthat I disabled (although PMDG does not like you doing that). Running on Win 7 Ultimate 64 I certainly see nothing like this, I'm in sim heaven running the NGX!But then I'm on an i7 with a 570 gtx so its not a fair comparison... Look at any of those background tasks that so many companies install these days, or virus scanmaybe?? Good luck! Jack F. Vogel, Delta Virtual Airlines
August 8, 201114 yr I do also experience this with my i7 and 570GTX -Ryan Vince Quote from 911 magazine: "- ...RSR delivers unparallelled performance and stunning looks"
August 8, 201114 yr Sorry Mike, its been quite some time now. I just use to go bonkers when I was doingnothing on the computer and it would suddenly get busy with some disk I/O, so Iwould probe and prod looking for what was running, if I didn't recognize it I woulddisable it. Once I moved to Win 7 I sort of lost that mania... If Ryan sees this with hardware close to mine then I'm even more inclined to thinkits some other software on your system, or even a sim add-on? I have not been flying with the frame display on, I would never do that unless Inoticed something with normal perceived performance being wrong, and I havenot. In fact, since going thru the PMDG recommendations, and tweaking a couplevalues to match theirs, I've also increased my UT2 traffic again, and last nightI was testing out some SIDs I like flying just to see how well this thing behaved...and beside the flawless LNAV/VNAV behavior, it also was just nice and smooththru the whole thing.... I love how it works as a 'jump-in-and-go' plane as well as being as deep as youwant to get.... Good luck in finding the problem though, I'm sure it will be uncovered eventually! PS I should add that I use the loadable framerate limiter set to 30, I've found that to improve things a lot, if you don't you might look into that. Jack F. Vogel, Delta Virtual Airlines
August 8, 201114 yr I notice the same thing. Flying along at FL28 or on the ground. 35+ fps then sudden drop to 12 for no apparent reason. Sort of like little hiccups. Still flyable just annoying. Sgt.Gil Hidalgo
August 8, 201114 yr i7-950 and GTX470 here. Haven't done anything but one tutorial flight so far but did notice some hiccups during the descent portion. A bit annoying since I was getting great performance through all other phases. Will test some more this evening to see if it continues. August 8, 201114 yr You all should make sure PMDG knows of your issues, sounds like there's some 'freeze' fixcoming, and who knows if its related, I would just use the formal support channel if an issuematters to you, not just the forum. Good luck!! Jack F. Vogel, Delta Virtual Airlines
August 8, 201114 yr I have a similar problem, sometimes during flight, sometimes on the ground. In my case the culprit was - at least I think so at the moment - Active Sky Evolution. I did a flight with direct weather control on, and performance was much more stable. Before that change, during cruise I noticed a white flickering when looking up in the VC accompanied by a noticeable framerate hit - according to hifi that is a Simconnect -problem that is not neccesarily caused by ASE. But enabling direct weather control got rid of the flickering. Performance on the ground was better as well, it was strange before, frames where pretty decent, then the next moment really bad. Switching to an outside view and back to the VC again seemed to help sometimes. Never noticed these problems with the Jetstream or MD-11, in fact I had to get rid of the ENB-series mod, too, because that causes a fairly large hit with the NGX on my system whereas the Jetstream didn't mind much. August 9, 201114 yr Author I would just use the formal support channel if an issuematters to you, not just the forum. Good luck!! Believe me, I've tried several times. PMDG's support ticket utility has either not been working when you can get to it, or you can't get to it presumably because it's either overloaded or not working, or perhaps they are fixing it. Sounds like this is becoming a known issue for several users, and spans OS' and even hardware, which makes me think it's either an addon interaction, or an NGX issue, though as you say some aren't seeing this. As for Vista64, runs everying else (and the NGX except for the hiccough issue) just great. I disabled UAC and several services not needed and don't experience troubles. I'll hold off on Win7 until my next build which will be when Ivy Bridge comes out. Also, I seem to hear of many more troubles w/ Win7 than Vista, presumably because not too many Vista users are left! August 9, 201114 yr Hmmm, interesting, I do have ASE, but have been lazy just of late and just turning oninternal real updated weather... I get the REX clouds either way. Maybe that's theculprit, suppose I can enable it tonight and see. I've always disabled UAC both in Vista and Win 7, I went thru a period of lots of issueswith memory and textures a year or so back, stuff that led up to the infamous Jesusfixes. These days I don't have any complaints, use Win 7 at home and work and its thefirst MS release that an old Unix hacker can actually live with IMHO. Cheers, Jack F. Vogel, Delta Virtual Airlines
