CPU for FSX

Featured Replies

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131770 There is a Gigabyte board for $119 but I think even though this is slightly over budget, its better. I you are on a strict budget then yes but I just don't really like them. Personal choice from lots of discussion that has gone around on the web.
Completely understood. That's why I bought the Asus. I'm a brand slave.Batting%20Eyelashes.gif

If you look at my youtube channel I have saw reviews with FPS in the 737NGX. AMD is the way to go for the dollar. Top of the line CPU plus motherboard and CPU for ~400
How do you figure? You tested the i7-875K against your AMD setup with no test standards whatsoever. You can easily pick up a socket 1155 mobo and K cpu for under $400, if not under $300! It doesn't matter how you cut it - overall performance or performance per dollar, AMD is not the way to go!
Not being sarcastic, truly! But how so? Because they have a few less power phases? As stated before, the AsRock boards have great features at a good cost. Less expensive does not always mean less quality. If you had been saying this about a Biostar board, I'd be inclined to agree. Then again, I've owned and/or used all of the brands except the EVGA boards when they were still an option. Again, AsRock motherboards are a viable option with great features. Asus is the leader right now.
While ASRock really does seem to have upped their game with their 1155 boards, there's certainly something to be said for Asus' long history of providing good reliable motherboards. I'd still be inclined to go Asus as well... oh wait...

I wasn't trying to be a jerk about it, but I suppose I was a little direct. Sorry.

BTW: Will it be worth buying a new GPU? I'm currently running on an nVidia 9600GT 512MB.
Considering you're looking forward to the NGX, you'll need a Graphics card that has at least 1 GB of memory.Having said that, unless you are planning for a triple monitor setup (with extremely high res) you should not waste your money on the latest and most powerful cards. Okay, you and a couple of other forums convinced me, I'll check out a few ASUS boards.

Though I'd rather buy a descent to great graphics card than some card which is low-end in 2 years. But I'll first upgrade the CPU to a high-end one, and I think the GPU can wait. ========================== And just a side-note if the i7-2600K gets in my budget, I'll buy that one, unless the FPS increase is 0-6 fps. Should I do it?

Shouldn't get the 2600k. You won't see a performance increase in FSX.

My system (in my signature) runs FSX maxed out, with REX 2.0 & overdrive, various airport add-ons and more. I have my frames locked externally to 30fps and the NGX (I only use the VC) runs ilke glass biggrin.png If I unlock them and use default scenery and aircraft, so far I've had a peak max of 530fps and average of 250fps Also the cost difference for the i2600k was only £30, so thats why i had it over the i2500k.

A lot of you have your i5-2500k/i7-2600k overclocked to 4.4 GHz, will this blow up my CPU if I use an Antec TriCool 120mm?

You should be able to make it just fine.

My CPU isn't running at 4.4Ghz all the time. The speed of the CPU increases with the load put on it. So if I'm only browing the web, then it stays at it's default 3.4Ghz. If I'm simming, then it will rise to the maximum of have it at of 4.4Ghz.

Off the top of my head it should throttle all the way down to 1.8-1.9(?)

I just bought an i5 2500k that I am eagerly awaiting to try with the NGX. Sadly I have to wait on PMDG to send me a redownload ticket. I'm ready to fly!
