March 17, 200422 yr Further to my last message I have tested the Saitek Cyborg FF stick with FS Force over the last week. I still think the product (whether $ or
March 17, 200422 yr Obviously, everyone has his/her own priorities when purchasing addons to FS.I have no issue shelling out USD 40 for a highly sophisticated addon plane like PMDG's 737 NG, or other planes of similar refinement for that matter. Also, a sophisticated weather addon or better than Fs9's outright braindead ATC would get 35 to 40 bucks from me.But after trying out FS Force and disabling the unrealistic parts of its force feedback, i.e. those forces that are not felt through a real world yoke or stick (just for the record I am IFR and multi rated in the real world), the remainig improvements to the force feedback, don't justfiy the imho exceedingly steep price tag. I would probably consider buying the product if it were more realistically priced at, let's say USD 15 or so. But for 35 bucks, I expect more than a little FFB improvement, especially when compared to the work that has to go into a really good airplane or weather addon which might be hundreds of man hours more than what's needed to whip up such a relatively minuscule addon as FS Force (again, just for the record, I have been working in IT for the past 21 years, 14 in development, so I guess I have a rather good idea of the work that goes into software)I have no intention to bash any person or product, that was just my CHF 0.02.Best RegardsMax (Bern, LSZB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg
March 17, 200422 yr I'll give ya ten quid for it and not a penny more!! Never mind the right and wrongs of the price. it's the market place that'll decide the volume of sales, and in my books it's too expensive for what it is!!!
March 17, 200422 yr I just talked to Russ the other day and he told me sale were still good.I don't think he loses any sleep over non-buyers.FaxCap
March 18, 200422 yr Well,Imagine how much more money he would make if he would price his little utility a bit more realistically ;-)It's slightly better force feedback at half! the price of FS9 (current price of FS9 here in Switzerland is about $70)Overpricing software without being aware of the fact that sales would be much stronger if the developers were less greedy is a common mistake.Best RegardsMax (Bern, LSZB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg
March 18, 200422 yr We are already developing another system that works alot better than his for half the price. Maybe he'll reduce it then;-)
March 18, 200422 yr I tried it and thought it was an improvement in most areas over what MS provides. I've never felt these forces through an actual yoke, but that doesn't matter in the immersion principle. it does work, I like most of the effects, but I didn't purchase it after the demo time ran out and have no plans on doing so. $10 and it would have good percieved value. $15... maybe. But $35? It didn't even take a moments consideration to delete the program from my computer and I never missed it. I feel that these creators should be rewarded for their efforts and I sure don't consider myself cheap when it comes to things that will enhance my experience, but I feel the price the creator wants vs. what his product delivers was unreaslistically matched.
March 18, 200422 yr If you want immersiveness, and who doesn't in Flight Sim, I'd recommend 'Active Camera'. it doesn't deal with joystick forces but check out 'head latency' alone and you will see what you've been missing in the FS2004 product, especially when you fly the GA aircraft. It adds enormously to the feeling of 'being there'. Add in ground turbulence, and all the other features and you've got a cracking package........price?
