August 16, 201114 yr Hi everyone, First of all, thanks a million times to PMDG for this wonderful add-on ! I'm experiencing my first learning difficulty with the beast. I did not fly the 737 for 2 years or so, when I switched to FSX, and this masterpiece is far from the FS9 version regarding from the learning curve. I got hard times, and that is the good news . I left my confort zone of the MD11 and JS41 ... So, here are the problems I meet, and I think all may have the same reason: Route has been entered, T/O config and all FMC pages filled, triple checked. Flaps set, airbrake armed, brake RTO, trim set to FMC value. - when on ground, before lining_up: - I can't arm VNAV - LNAV, A/T and F/D are armed (appear on display) - when taking-off: - I push the throttle to 40% of N1, but can't engage TOGA. I tried both by pushing the hidden zone under "course" or pressing the TOGA button on the throttle. I can hear the click sound but no effect. - when pushing further to 50% or more of N1, the alarm shouts (wrong configuration ?). - when airborne: - the above mentioned alarm stops by itself - VNAV can be finally selected I tried a dozen times last night, no solution found of what / where I make a mistake. I both tried with cold and dark status, and default engine running status. Thanks for your help, Emmanuel
August 16, 201114 yr airbrake armedThat's probably why you're getting the takeoff warning sound. No need to arm the speedbrake in the NG, and I believe you'll get the warning sound if you do. As for not being able to arm VNAV on the ground and your TO/GA issue, do you have both Flight Directors on? You have to have both the CPT and FO side flight directors on in order for TO/GA to work and VNAV to arm.
August 16, 201114 yr Author Hi Mike, thanks for your help, Will try without the speedbrake armed. Both FD are on, I saw that in the manual. Reason may be somewhere else ...
August 16, 201114 yr Hello, It's normal you cannot engage VNAV on ground. On 737NG, u can only activate LNAV first. But there is a special departure procedure to perform with the NG :-Add 40% N1, wait it stabilizes-Press TO/GA button-At 500ft AGL press LNAV-Continue climbing to 3000ft AGL at V2+15/20-At 3000ft AGL you accelerate to flaps up speed-Then you can press VNAV button Be sure you both FD are on, that you selected the right assumed temp (FLEX) in N1 page... I hope this helped you have nice flights :) SAFIR OTHMANE
August 16, 201114 yr VNAV shouldn't be armed before takeoff, atleast it's not recomended. Check manual for further details. EDITED BY MOD - DO NOT POST COPYRIGHTED MANUAL MATERIAL FROM OTHER COMPANIES. Max Schibbye
August 16, 201114 yr Author Hi, I just tried to reproduce the tutorial, in which both LNAV and VNAV were armed on ground ?! Regarding the TOGA, I tried the 40% thing, didn't work.
August 16, 201114 yr Have you removed the chocks? ;) You probably have, re-reading your first post. But I thought I'd throw it in here anyway. VNAV shouldn't be armed before takeoff, atleast it's not recomended. Check manual for further details.Subject: Arming VNAV on the Ground (FMC Update U10.7) This bulletin is specifically for FMC S/W revision U10.7IIRC the NGX uses U10.8. So should not be an issue with the NGX. August 16, 201114 yr I have armed VNAV and LNAV on the ground before. If you check the manual... There are certain requirements that must be met for them both to engage while on the ground. One of the criteria is that the initial waypoint is less than 5nm's from the runway. You'll have to excuse the simplicity and lack of precise detail of this but I am on my lunch and busy stuffing my face. Cheers Tim Tim Mitchell FSLabs Beta Tester / Support
August 16, 201114 yr Author Hi Tim, thanks for the tip, I'm at the office too, but as far as I remember, the 5nm thing concerns the LNAV not the VNAV. The manual does not say anything VNAV conditions.
August 16, 201114 yr Author UPDATE. NOT arming speedbrake did it with the alarm problem. However, I just tried 4 times again to try to found the VNAV and most of all the TOGA problems. I checked again and again the FP route, T/O values, etc ... VNAV: still can't arm it before t/o, but I can activate the LVL Change on ground (MCP speed is green in the display). VNAV can be armed when airborne. TOGA: even with a stabilized 40% of N1, the TOGA button does still not activate TOGA power. Help, help, help ... Cheers.
