Contrails on AI
I'm having some issues with AI and contrails with V1.3 and P3D V2.5 The contrails of AI aircraft will only show when I'm in my aircraft at about 3 miles proximity and then disappear again. If I "go to" one of the AI aircraft then I can see the contrails as they would work and as I would expect them to work normally. When I go back to my own plane the contrails stop and only start again when within 3 miles or so. If the plane is flying across my view in the flight deck and I choose to get up close then return to the flight deck then the contrail will only show for the period that I was focussed on the aircraft. I hope that makes sense? Cheers, Tim

Best Ground Operations Add-on?
You can try GSX for free before buying so suggest you do that. I personally prefer GSX

VATSIM CLIENT (ACARS)
On the VATSIM forum, one of the guys involved in the pilot client said he was already in touch with PMDG. I believe they on PMDG's end they were waiting for a frame work to be finalised before they can even consider having it as part of their aircraft - it would seem now that on the VATSIM they've set out what that info Cheers, Tim

Am I the only one interested in the coffee cake? Cheers, Tim

CPDLC
Chaps, There was actually some discussion on tis in theVATSIM forum in relation to the new pilot client they are looking to develop. The crux of the argument is that it is possible to be done however VATSIM in relation to the pilot client need to specify what parameters are needed to connect to the network and pass messages etc... to PMDG so that it can be incorporated. So when flying under say Shanwick, you could log into the ATC data link as easily as tuning frequency. If VATSIM or IVAO created a set of standard parameters then anyone add on developer could create a cpdlc client in the aircraft that could connect. Cheers, Tim

Navigating the 777 trans Atlantic/Pacific
Interesting reading although a couple of points I'd like to add. In the NAT Briefing, for each track a number of flight levels will also be issued that can be used for that particular path. Because during the day the majority of the flights are westbound, most or all of the flight levels between FL300 and FL400 can be used. The same principle works at night where most flights are eastbound and again most if not all flight levels are available to use on the track. For the NAT there is no general odd or even flight levels as in most of the RVSM world. For the pacific, PACOTS/OTS routes are generated. Again same principle that tracks are made up of several waypoints that take advantage of winds whether its to take advantage of a tail wind or to avoid a 100 knt headwind. will PMDG 777 has a electronic flight bag?
What I hope they do is to integrate the take-off calculator that interfaces with the data in the FMC - airport, runway, temps, v speeds etc... Not so bothered about the reading of the charts

777 AND 747 2.0
I believe that the RR's only pertain to the 200 and 200ER series and maybe the 300? I didn't think they were an option on the 300ER or 200LR

Cloudy Oceans
Hello...long time reader and purchaser... first time forum poster.I've been using AS2012 happily since it was released. My prefferred flying is usually long haul and more often than not flying over the ocean.Something I have been noticing however is how cloudy the ocean is... very.Currently I am enroute to KLAX from VHHH, and ever since passing Japan, the skies below me have not been empty. I have checked the satellite imaging for the pacific area as while I know there are some thunderstorms in the area, i would of expected the clouds to build up the closer I got. (more towards the USA than Japan)Anyway I've been looking up some satellite images for the period I was flying, it would appear, that at least the first 1500nms from Japan eastwards were largely clear skies, maybe a few wispy clouds (maybe cirus but I can't remember cloud names) but all I've seen are clouds and nothing else.I do like how the winds are very accurate when compared to the predicted ones that FOC gives and escpially that over the ocean they are still correct so as I don't end up loosing tons of fuel when the wind shifts unexpectadly.I understand that there are certain limitations in FSX and there is a lack of weather stations in the middle of the sea but there must be a work around or some way to look at this to depict how and where the clouds will generate over the sea. Unless perhaps there is an issue with my set-up then I of course would be after anyones recommendations on settings.I usually upload a flight plan into AS2012 and also select the enhance route coverage option and use DWC.This isn't a dig at AS2012, because I have to say the programme is outstanding and hope to see a resolution to this slight visual manifestation.CheersTim

NGX, Simconnect and Aivlasofts EFB.
Sounds like the culprit of why simconnect crashes while using IVAP with the only way of restoring it being to restart the FS pc...

What do you know...another frozen panel
Not often I wade into a room with children throwing their toys out of the pram but I feel I must here. First off, with the RC of the NGX I would experience the occasional panel freeze with the NGX, but following HF3, I get none at all. I have several friends who I fly with and we've all spent time setting our systems up a certain way, ensuring that certain items are up to date and installing them if they are not there. Since HF3, none of us have had any problems what so ever. Therefore how can there be a coding issue if we don't get issues and you still do? I've flown around 50+ hours so far and had none of the issues you are reporting e.g. skeletal aircraft, crashes/freezes with the HUGS I think it's out of order that you all still moan even with PMDG trying to help you out. Ok so they might not be dealing with yourselves directly but its in their own interests to have a product that works. If they can't reproduce the problem what more can they do? This would point towards a user error or more likely a users system. To keep moaning that you can't sim still is ridiculous . I seriously think you chaps need to re-look at your systems and how you have FSX set up. I don't run any programmes that aim to boost memory like game booster, I have a clean, updated OS with drivers that are up to date. Just my 2p. Cheers Tim

Can't engage TOGA / VNAV + alert
I have armed VNAV and LNAV on the ground before. If you check the manual... There are certain requirements that must be met for them both to engage while on the ground. One of the criteria is that the initial waypoint is less than 5nm's from the runway. You'll have to excuse the simplicity and lack of precise detail of this but I am on my lunch and busy stuffing my face. Cheers Tim

Failure mode requests
Fred, I think this happens already. My next service on my Ryanair airframe is in approx 230 hours. I believe that the real aircraft is a combination of cycles (take-off and landings) and hours. However I have no Idea how many, but would hazard a guess of around 2000 cycles or so which in that cause if you have 4 cycles a day is around 1.36 years. Cheers Tim

I think I found a clue to all those problems...
Is not to do with one of the bits of the airplane that you can interchange thats not always present? More like a placeholder?

HUD Worked in all livreries .
To Nameless, You can actually turn it on or off via the PMDG options in the CDU. Much easier than moving files about. Cheers, Tim

Fuel Gauge Temperature incorrect
Ahh ok that makes sense. I took off from BFI with full fuel and still got 70%. I'll see what happens in a couple of hours. I have to admit I am more use to other add-ons where the temp drops a lot quicker Cheers Tim

Fuel Gauge Temperature incorrect
Hello again, A slightly annoying thing I have noticed is that the fuel temperature gauge on the overhead panel is currently at 10, and has been so for a couple of hours where the temperature outside the aircraft is -28C. I would of thought by now it would be at least -15C. I have checked with 2 other NGX users and their gauge reads the same as mine! Cheers, Tim

NGX Slight Pauses
Dear Team, Amazing effort on the NGX. Currently carrying out a short flight and wow... What can I say? Nothing... well almost nothing. It seems I experience slight pauses, they last for a second or so and have an interval of around 59 seconds to a 1 minute between. Other than that everything runs silky smooth. As far as I know my Direct X is all up to date as are my net frameworks and windows is up to date aswell, including drivers. I'm hoping its something my end that maybe I haven't done in regards to my system but I thought it worth a mention as I'm sure there will be an easy fix for this. My Set-up. Windows 64bit,I7 920 at 4ghz6gb of RAMFSX SP2500gb HD,ATI5870 1024gb Anti virus I use ESET Nod 32 . Cheers, Tim

S-turns & ASE - NGX
I've found that disabling the Turbulence within FSX is fine as ASE will give its own turbulence due to wind etc... and along with the wind smoothing options I have no problems with any PMDG aircraft Cheers, Tim

Weird graphics issue
Chaps,I have also previously had this issue which was not shader related. If you have been using bojotes guide and inserted the bufferpool entry into your cfg, it may be that the value is too high. If you use the shader 3 mod then you need to make sure you have the modified shader files installed too.Cheers,Tim

NGX VNAV Implementation and Winds Aloft
I use FOC and I have to manually input the winds into the FMC of the 747 or MD11. The difference between FOC and ASE I find is around 10% in direction and speed so it doesn't mess things up too much - I look at it as such that commerical flight planning data while won't be 100% accurate will be correct to a certain degree. I think an automatic insertion feature while being handy could cause more problems - what about it loading erronous data that causes an FMC crash? How do you know its correct unless you've checked the data agaisnt every waypoint?Unless I am mistaken, FSbuild does not use wind aloft data? so you would need to find the data and check it. For a few extra minutes work on the pilots part, I think its an item that should not be included as I'm sure there is other functionality that can be implemented instead.Inputting the data myself I know that its correct as I know that is what has been used in the calculation and therefore can check it against the output of ASECheersTim
