Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?

Featured Replies

So, I'll look into upgrading to a better HDD with higher speeds and a comparable 2nd storage device for FSX. One interesting note, I was on newegg just to see how much I would save by building this system myself. And guess what?, while adding up the cost of every single component that this rig is spec'd out with, and by only adding the lowest cost of each offered, it adds up to exactly......$1279Shocked.gif funny!!!! That's the exact price of the system I'm looking at!
What a perfect coincedence

I've been into FSX now for about 10 months now. I first downloaded the DEMO on my laptop and was instantly hooked, even with the horrible processing power of a 4 year old system! So, witha LOW budget as my guide I decided to throw $500 (notice i said BUDGET) right down the drain on a system that I thought would run FSX, an AMD 640 quad core with a smokin radeon 9450 graphics card, oh the uniformed! I took me all of 2 minutes to figure out that , yes, FSX runs a lot better on this "NEW" system than on my out of date laptop, but was still no where near what I expected! So my first "Upgrade" was a HD Radeon 5750 GPU (again, budget!). Yes it did make a difference in FPS but still slowwwww! I next replaced my CPU with a Phenom 1090T, ok bumped my performance up a little. Next was a better MoBo to support more agressive overclocking. Then water cooling, new ram (corsair 7,7,7,8 1600) and Viola, now 4 ghz rock steady! Dissappointment! 12-15 fps on urban areas, Seattle, with Orbix addons PNW. Clouds are the worst! Kills my system wqith anything more than default "Fair Skies". Believe me I've read everything out there on how to get the best from my system, Bojote's Tweaks and cfg tweaker, turning off unwanted programs on startup and pretty much tweaking everything to squeeze every last drop of BLOOD out of this Turnip! I've decided to go to the DARK SIDE!!! INTEL>>>> meaning spending more money! I found this system for a reasonable price and would like some input on what I should expect in performance compared to what I already have. To me there is enough "Stuff" out there to make me swtch to Intel and Nvidia. This system seems to have a pretty good combo! "click on SUMMARIZE at the left of the screen to get the default specs... http://www.cyberpowe...er_Xtreme_5200/ For $1300 dollars for a dedicated FSX machine, does this seem like a decent system? Intel i7 2600kGTX 570 "Superclocked"Water cooling8 gigs 1600 Corsair Dominatoretc. btw, I run a 32 visio monitor at a pretty low 1360X768 res. Thanks for the input!
That is a decent system Winston. I might just skip the raptor though and go with a small 60g SSD for the OS (if you can swing it) and a mid sized WD Black Caviar with 64MB cache for FSX and everything else. Here is a link to a couple of good options at a fair price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 $89.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227725 $84.99 Please keep us informed as we are excited for you. Kind regards,

If I could cheaply ship PC parts and newegg.com shipped overseas, I could save heaps with the $AUD. Pitty but that is a nice system there Winston. Just want to warn you, FSX is very annoying and don't expect to just put it on run the venetubo tweaker and hey presto.

Oh, I'm very aware of how exhausting it can be to run FSX. There have been days where I'll get up in the morning, sit down at the computer and spend the next 6 hours trying th figure out why I now have a missing scenery file or an aircraft with no guages or Crash to Desktop, etc. I firmly believe that FSX was created as some sick covert government test to find the limits of a persons' sanity!

Although it can'y read the odd thing that you do once a month but you will see faster boot speeds in windows, loads of FSX, anything you do on a regular basis. You will definitely see faster boot times on a SRT system that a VRap. VRaps are like a hyped up caviar black.

What's a SRT ?

Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

Its a new intel technology that basically makes a SSD the cache for another drive.

Is it actually pointless?

If someone wants to buy a 64GB SSD because boot up time is that important to them, I suggest loading the entire OS on the SSD and using a slower speed HDD for storage (think cheap Caviar Green) and a Caviar Black for FSX (Plenty of room, speed, and cheap per GB). Test show (an it should go without saying) that SRT's performance isn't as fast as booting the OS from an SSD. I think Intel's SRT is more a gimmick, though it does help boot times among other things.

Hah. Sorry gotta laugh to myself. This guy has been advertising it saying it will do wonders to FSX. Thanks for the conformation. So how is this for a HDD setup? 120GB Corsair Force 3 SSD SATAIII (OS/FSX)600GB VRap (other junk)

I wouldn't put FSX on the SSD. Leave that clean for the OS and use the Vraptor for FSX.

<<Removed by MOD - you've been warned before, anymore nonsense and you're gone!>> Ok, I have - on my i5 2500K rig - a 120 Vertex 2, where I use 64 Gb as a cache for 1 Tb WDC Black 64 Mb, 6 Gbs with FSX installed. - and this combo is fast and efficient! I´ve tried the Vertex 2 with FSX only, was impressed, but since I only get 111 Gb effectively it´s useless. I´ve tried the WDC Black with FSX only, and it´s fast, but loading is slower, but no big diff. in performance. So instead of throwing the Vertex 2 in the bin, I use it as a cache, and I like it... Aha....I'll just ignore that top line..... Glad to get some feedback on different HD uses instead of all the usual
