Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?

Yes I was aying it apposed to the VRap. A Vrap, $150. 7,200RPM HDD, $60 + 20GB SSD, $50. Cheaper and better performance.

But it isn't better performance. All you are doing is increasing the cache size. You are still bottlenecked by the spin of the drive, 7200RPM. It can only spin as fast as that so data can only be read as fast as that can read it.

Although it can'y read the odd thing that you do once a month but you will see faster boot speeds in windows, loads of FSX, anything you do on a regular basis. You will definitely see faster boot times on a SRT system that a VRap. VRaps are like a hyped up caviar black.

The only thing that will be faster is the use of windows. By the time you get round to using FSX, the 20GB of cache is filled with OS and a little of FSX.

With my limited experience with overclocking, the only advice i can offer is to make sure your mobo has a good rep when it comes to overclocking. Some boards are better than others in this respect and with no real price difference.Just what i read many times when researching for my oc. For instance, the board in my sig i found very user friendly when playing with the bios.

You can get a 40GB SSD either and OS doesn't take up 20GB of cache.

ASUS ones are very user friendly. i would have preferred one but I didn't want to pay $20 extra for some pointless video outputs.

What happens when you shut down? Cache is cleared isn't it? Or so i believe. Possibly wrong here. So when you start up you have to start all over again and read the data. It all comes down to the major underlying fact. Pairing the SRT with a standard 7200RPM mechanical drive isn't going to have much effect because it is bottlenecked still by the speed in which the hard drive reads the data in the first place. Maybe after a few hours and starting FSX over and over then it might start to take notice, but until then.

Really? you would think Intel would release it as flawed as that. Of course it stays in the cache.LOL.gif Sorry, I just had a little laugh when I thought you thought it was deleted. The RPM of the HDD is still fairly irrelevant. you could have a descent 5,400 RPM laptop HDD or a rubbish old 7,200 RPM drive you would go for the laptop one right. Cars, Honda have high revving engines, are they the best engines ever. What about a big V8, at lower revs it will still be better. There are more factors than it's RPM.

I hear you, to me $20 is not much extra for less agrivation (to me that is).Regards,

I don't find the Gigabyte BIOS hard at all though and I am fairly new to the overclocking thing.

No need to actually go and laugh in someones face for being wrong. Have I ever laughed in your face when you've been wrong countless times on other threads? As I said quite clearly "Or so i believe. Possibly wrong here." But of course, you seem to have a problem with me. I think you should just come out and tell us all what you have against me. Nobody else has this problem, just you. So for the benefit of this forum, the multiple threads we've hijacked, and the countless other people who are probably getting annoyed by all this, come out and tell me what your damned problem is with me.

No I didn't laugh in your face I just found it a little funny and thought I would share with you. When someone notices something funny about me I just go along with it and enjoy the humor. Might just be a nationality thing. I do not have a problem with you. I could not care if it was you or someone else trying to say that the VRap would be faster I am just trying to express my point.

And for some reason, every single thread we both post in turns into an argument. This doesn't happen over in the NGX forums or other threads you dont post in so clearly you have something against me.

You just seem to post very differently to me. I had one a while ago, you could find it if you can be bothered, about the i7 2600k vs the i5 2500k. It was rebuilding my PC I think and this was when I knew nothing about PCs. If you posted something like "How good is the iFly 737" not that you would cos you got the NGX, I wouldn't go on about how you should get the NGX cos it is soo much better. I would say nice and probably go. I have built a system and I am sure there are people out there that have built more, maybe you have, but I am just saying things based on what people are actually suggesting on the net that do work. I wouldn't go on recommending sound cards because I know nothing about them. I have been looking at an SSD and that is why I am expressing my points of what I have researched and found from credible sources. Regards,

So, I'll look into upgrading to a better HDD with higher speeds and a comparable 2nd storage device for FSX. One interesting note, I was on newegg just to see how much I would save by building this system myself. And guess what?, while adding up the cost of every single component that this rig is spec'd out with, and by only adding the lowest cost of each offered, it adds up to exactly......$1279Shocked.gif funny!!!! That's the exact price of the system I'm looking at! BTW, The "Wise Man" i quoted a few posts back, obviously wasn't married! I guess I'm sleeping in the Motor Coach tonight!sad.png
