Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?

Wise cracks and wisegents and a single female HOTHEAD!! Can I say that in ThaiInglish? Me not native, thank god... Ok, I have - on my i5 2500K rig - a 120 Vertex 2, where I use 64 Gb as a cache for 1 Tb WDC Black 64 Mb, 6 Gbs - and this combo is fast and efficient! I´ve tried the Vertex 2 with FSX only, was impressed, but since I only get 111 Gb effectively it´s useless. I´ve tried the WDC Black with FSX only, and it´s fast, but loading is slower, but no big diff. in performance. So instead of throwing the Vertex 2 in the bin, I use it as a cache, and I like it... Well obviously if you have an extra SSD laying around... Rolling%20Eyes.gif Going out and buying an SSD specifically for SRT is another story. And besides, you're the one running FSX on the same drive as your OS (I advise against that). What was all the other junk in the first sentence? I'll ignore it.

I do not think that 120GB for your OS and FSX will be enough unless you have almost no FSX addons and do not plan on getting any. My FSX drive has 100GB on it, that does not include GEX and FEX that were installed on a storage drive since they are only data bases. I have a separate drive for FSX photo scenery and that already has close to 300GB's on it. My OS drive has 50GB's on it and that is only my OS and other stuff that has to go on the OS drive. There are other programs on the OS drive that do not have to go on there, but all together that can not add up to more that 10GB and I want them on the OS SSD just so they will load faster.

My FSX install is just over 80GB including GEX, REX and UTX.

so let me ask this, Since it is obviously better to have FSX on a seperate drive than other programs and the operating system, can I just add a 500gb HDD to the system, using it for all my FSX "stuff" and still benifit from the seperation? I know its not ideal and I realize there will be a bottleneck because of the 7200rpm speed, but it IS only another $45 to add this HDD as opposed to a smaller primary HDD (less exspensive) and some other type of HD at $120+ more... ...Although, should I be concerned with the limited cache of 16mb of the offered 500gb SATA III? Oh, Man! I hate not knowing what to do! Yes it would be great to get everything perfect, but at some point I need to stick to my budget. If anyone is willing to look at my original post and go to the link of the system and customize it to whatever the general consences is, (and stay around $1300) I'm willing to go with that option too! Remember, this is primarily an FSX system. Thanks guys! (and gal)!

NGX forgot the second hard drive for FSX, but adding that will still make her price come in right at your $1,300.00 budget. Out of the choices they have I would go with the 750GB 64MB cache, that is another $61 and is only $16 more than the 500GB drive you were looking at. The 750GB sounds like a lot, but for a mech HD to be at optimum performance it should not be more than half full, so your 750GB FSX HD would only be a 375GB HD. As the drive fills up and the data is stored on the inside of the platter it starts to affect access time.

Ahhh my mistake. So I did. I thought when I did it it said 2x 1TB but rereading it is 2TBx1. Haha. But yes. Add the 750GB 64MB cache drive as a secondary and you're all the way.

Ah! makes sense now, Thanks NGX for taking the time to review the whole system! I like your suggestion about changing the case to save some money. I was going to do that as well. As for the second HDD, I will get the 750 GB. But, I think I'll still go with the i7 2600K (you know, it's a guy thing, bigger is always better!) I'll probably just go with a 1TB HDD as the primary to save some additional cash as I have a 1TB HHD right now and still have 800+ GB free. OK, I'm ordering it right now! Thank you for the great input everyone,(and entertainment, NGX and VirginAUS737! you guys fight like Brother and Sister, you two are Hilarious!LMAO.gif), I mean it !
