Uninstall/reinstall problem

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, after i bought the NGX nI decided to give my system a clean up and upgrade. So I deinstalled FSx, installed new videocard extra RAM and cleaned up my registry.Did had some problems installing other software so decided to clean FSX and remove and reintsall all third party software. So I tried uninstalling the NGX with add/remove programs in windows. Everything seems to go just fine, but when i checked my FSX directory ALL the files where still there, so tried reinstalling and removing again, same problem. So I decided to manually remove all PMDG files and reinstall again. Everything goes just fine: FSX ask me to activate the dll's, the aircraft shows up in the menu and it loads fine... but when the aircraft is loaded in FSX, the gauges don't show up and there is also no PMDG menu in FSx to activate the NGX.So I think somehow the uninstall/reinstall of the NGX didn't work. Any solutions besides reinstalling FSX? With kind regards, Jeffrey van Luit

What OS ?Define "cleaned up my registry" !!Are all windows updates up to date ? I can imagine a whole slew of things that might be causing you problems, but you have told us very little about your system. Geoff

I have had this issues i would advise you not to use any registry cleaner as the NGX don't like it

There should be NO PMDG menu to activate the NGX. ( Tools, addons or whatever) This plane is not the same as past PMDG product that had that menu,Most configuration is done via the FMC. After the plane loads, and you you get the VC view from the pilots seat, there should be a Coundown window (top left). If you don't see that, the plane is not Initilizing. Geoff

If you have messed up the Registry, then it might not just be FSX you going to need to re-install.You might be looking at a Windows re-install. :( Geoff

Thnx for the quick reply!Registry is fine now. As i did a did à system back up.Indeed the plane is not initializing when loaded.Os is win7 32 bit.

When you uninstall the NGX it leaves the PMDG folder in place. Just delete it. No problem. Fred.

I disagree with you so hard... For instance, CCleaner's registry tool is an extremely safe tool to clean the registry. No issues here. Very clean and streamlined OS thanks to it, O&O, and diligence on my part.

Time to update to 64 Bit soon !! However, all is not lost ... you can use the 3 Gig switch with Windows 7 32 bitI would recommend setting to 2.5 Gig option. I run XP 32 on one of my Test Dev systems, and with it running with 2.5 GB VA, it NEVER crashes out with NGX. Note: For all you Windows 7 64 bit users, with masses of ram, that think W64 is using it all. because it is 64 Bit.. FSX, a 32bit app running inside the WOW64 subsystem actually can only have access to 4GB of VA if it was compiled with the /LARGEADDRESSAWARE linker property when built. ( FSX is compiled compiled with the /LARGEADDRESSAWARE linker ) If it was not, it will only have access to 2GB of VA, just as that app would on a 32bit system - there is no difference here. /3GB inside WOW64 is implicit, because there's no kernel VA that needs to be shared (hence a 32bit LAA app can access all 4GB of the 32bit VA space inside the WOW64 container). So W7 64 only have a Max of 4 GB VA for 32 bit applications, like FSX. ( which is obviously way more than is needed for FSX + as many addons as you like !!) Those with 32 bit systems can get 3 Gb, but then that only leaves 1 GB for the Kernal, and in FSX, you will likely get rendering issues. So 2.5 GB is a good compromize.... and works VERY WELL. Geoff

Oke guys, kinda lost here, i'll try to lay down the problem as detailed as possible: First my system :MS windows 7 Home premium 32 bitIntel core 2 quad 2.4GHZ3,0GB ramNvidia Geforce GTX560 This is what i did:1. Uninstalled al thrid party software of FSx (including NGX)2. Uninstalled FSX3. run CCleaner as some software left a lot of traces in registry.4. Reinstalled FSx with service pack 1.5. Tested FSx: normal ops!6. Installed NGX and a lot of other addons.7. Some addons gave a CTD, not sure which one, so deleted al the 3rd party software again.8. All software removed, only ALL the PMDG files remained in FSX!9. Tried reinstalling and then uninstalling the NGX, more files where removed from FSX but still the PMDG folder existed in FSX whith some files in it. Manually deleted the PMDG folder.10. Reinstalled the NGX. FSx ask me to recognize the PMDG dll's, so i did, the plane shows up in the menu in FSX. All seems to go just fine, and the VC loads up... but there is no initialisation as i used to see before i reinstalled fsx..also no gauges are loaded. And no place to be found where i can activate the NGX. First of all, it's kinda strange when you use a unistall of a program it leaves a lot of files untouched. Is this normal? What could be the problem for the NGX not initializing? Kind regards, Jeffrey van Luit

Did you Defrag your HD ?Ideally, remove FSX, defrag, Install, then defrag the installed "Spluttered mess" Makes a BIG difference. Geoff

Hi Geoff, about to do that now, what do you mean with defrag the installed "spluttered mess" ? Jeffrey

Jeffrey!Did you say you installed only SP1 for FSX?You shall have SP2 or Acc pack also when running the NGX.Ignore also what Peter Kellberg said about not deleting "left over folder" for PMDG whenyou have uninstalled it from Control panel, you shall do that and you did, that was right./ Leffe

In the progress of deleting FSX, defragging HD, installing FSX on different location (still had it installed in default program files/microsoft games etc). Will then install FSx with SP1 and 2. Will keep you posted on progress, for now thnx for all the help and tips so far!! Jeffrey

Hi Guys, well the last trick worked, still don't know what the real problem was..might be the lack of installing SP2.But in all got it up and working.FPS with pretty high settings are around 25fps (limited @ 30 fps), not so bad, but the sim stutters quite a lot.. it drops from 25 to 2 for a second and repeats time after time. I did tweak the FSx.cfg as per manual.... tried to lower all the settings in FSX to minimal no luck...probably it needs more tweaking, but any suggestions are welcome!!!Once more my system:MS windows 7 Home premium 32 bitIntel core 2 qua 2.40 ghz3 GB RAMGeforce GTX560 Thnx for the help Jeffrey
