November 21, 201312 yr I thought the blue light of happiness always stayed on. That's how it was on the SLAAB, and the RJ (though the RJ was white/green). I never really use the C/D state, though, so I could just be forgetting... AFAIK GPU light should go on even without battery. I think that's correct, but for some reason I think that you can't toggle it on in the 737 (at least the NGX) without the batt being on. I could be wrong about that, and can't check since I just started a trans atlantic flight. Steve Caffey

Based on the schematic on B737.org.uk, the EXT PWR dumps right into the busses nowhere near the BATT switch. Kyle Rodgers

Based on the schematic on B737.org.uk, the EXT PWR dumps right into the busses nowhere near the BATT switch. I agree based on the schematics it should work without the battery, but it seems that isn't the case, at least in the NGX. No idea about the real deal. I do know from personal experience that some planes in reality can be connected to ground power and powered up without touching the battery. Tested as follows: -Loaded up in the NGX, switched to Cold/Dark panel state. (Which does not have GPU connected) -Hold Menu button on left CDU, connect GPU. -GRD POWER AVAILABLE light lights up. -Selecting GRD POWER on has no effect. -Selecting BATT ON, then GRD POWER works normally. -Turning the BATT OFF once Ground power is active makes some things (like recall) not work, but the CDU's, DU's, standby altimeter clacking thing whose proper name I forget all still powered. -Then selecting Ground Power off, can not be restored without selecting Battery back on. Correct, or bug? Steve Caffey
