September 2, 201114 yr For realistic fog generation change the following to "True" DisableHazeLayer = FalseFogLayerGeneration = FalseWhenever you make a change in the settings of ASE, you must disable and re enable fog generation. Fsx does a lousy job at depicting fog.haze generation, but ASE does a excellent job, one of it's best features.Benny,If you are refering to my post here, exactly that. September 8, 201114 yr Hey guys, I seriusly cannot find my FSXoptions.CFGI have made sure it shows known file extentions and all thats in my HiFi Folder is a folder labeled "XEngine" Please help Derek Derek Lane Passenger Division Vice-President AirHaul Airline Alliance
September 8, 201114 yr C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX this is where your fsx.cfg files is. Make sure you have show hidden files activated I dont have AES loaded but I think you are reffering to your fsx.cfg file location. Rich Sennett
September 8, 201114 yr C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX this is where your fsx.cfg files is. Make sure you have show hidden files activated I was talking about the Active Sky FSXoptions.CFG not the FSX.CFGBut i think i figured it out, I have Active Sky X not Evolution Derek Lane Passenger Division Vice-President AirHaul Airline Alliance
September 8, 201114 yr Yes ok I do not have that loaded at the moment sorry can't remember, did you google it ? That must be an active sky file, so I'm no help, sorry. Been thinking of reloading that just for weather not crazy about rex Rich Sennett
September 8, 201114 yr Here you go I loaded it pretty simple C:\Users\Rich\AppData\Roaming\HiFi\ASE\Options Rich Sennett
September 8, 201114 yr Author One question-Before I would always load ASE first and then FSX. But now, FSX (NGX) will not load the weather after lift off or any other time. But, if I load FSX first, the ASE, everything is perfect. What is the load sequence for these two programs? Was I doing this wrong from the get go? Also, I notice that you cannot open FSUIPC (Registered) when ASE is running, without fatal. Turn off ASE and it is no problem to access FSUIPC for input. No big deal, but I was curious? I am guessing the settings have told FSUIPC to stay out of the weather?? Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I didn't see this till last night. I think the recommended way is to start ASE first. However when I was running in Standard Mode at one time I found that by loading ASE first and then FSX and loading up at the gate that my weather was different from everyone elses on VATSIM? Reason I knew the weather was different was because everyone was landing on a different runway than I was gonna use based on the winds and no atc was around at the time. So now that I am using DWC I always load FSX first, then when I am sitting at the gate I load up ASE and after it loads up it works just fine for me. If your using ASE for Weather and REX for Textures make sure all the weather settings are turned off in REX. Paul Deemer
September 8, 201114 yr "I always load FSX first, then when I am sitting at the gate I load up ASE " Good stuff Paul, thanks Rich Sennett
September 8, 201114 yr Author Hello, quick question.. I have a registered version of FSUIPC, with REX ... My settings offers too smooth of a ride in windy conditions below cumulus and inside them.. How can I make it a little more bumpy on takeoff and approach if conditions are prone to turbulence.. It works fine in upper levels and don't have the autopilot going nutso.. I must have set something in fsuipc wrong and looked at the documents and don't get any gusts at lower levels.. I went into a long in detail explanation, but then hit the back button by accident and lost my entire post before it got sent. Grrrr hate when that happens! Don't really feel like typing all that again. So I will try and give you the short version this time. FS weather has always been pooly coded especailly the turbulence effects. The flaws were not as noticeable in FS9 with FSUIPC. In FSX the flaws became much more apparent with Simconnect added to the equation. Given the fact that there will never be a Service Pack 3 for FSX and that Microsoft has abandoned it I think HIFi has done the best that can be done giving the limitations. With the above settings I do not notice light turbulence effects, but when the weather is medium to bad its very noticable. Not to the extreme you saw in FS9 though. A lot of people are used to this from FS9 and do not see it in FSX with all the smoothing options and then think well its not realistic anymore. Given the sensitive nature of the PMDG planes (which is a good thing, not bad) and the fact that Simconnect totally sucks you really only have 2 options in my opinion. You can use the default FSX and FSUIPC settings. (During drastic weather and winds you can expect the following). 1) Plane hits a radical windshift and overspeeds leading to a crash from stress on the aircraft2) Plane turns into a toy rocking horse3) S-turn and AutoPilot hunting issue - (plane will bank left and right, back and forth)4) Very unrealistic turbulence effects. Feels like the hand of God shaking your plane. (FS9 on way over to Hong Kong) Or you can use the settings above. In very minor and light weather conditions the effects of turbulence will not be very noticable if at all. But in medium to extreme conditions you should notice the turbulence effects. They will not be like FS9 and will be more subtle and tamer, but still noticable. I think HiFi has done the best they could at getting the weather as realistic as possible given the limitations. So it really all boils down to the lesser of two evils. Turbulence is one thing that will never be accurately simulated in FSX. So that is the tradeoff we all have to live with. Other than the turbulence flaw, my weather is very realistic so very happy with Activesky Evolution, and I just have learned to accept you can't have it all when it comes to FSX. Paul Deemer
September 8, 201114 yr But no matter what you set in REX, if the REX Wx Engine is not running, will REX weather still affect FSX? Sorry it took so long to get back to you. September 8, 201114 yr Author Will REX weather still affect FSX even with the REX Wx Engine not running? Won't turning it off simply disable REX weather? REX Weather will not affect FSX at all as long as you have the REX Weather Engine disabled. You do not even need to have REX running while using FSX unless your using it for weather. If your just using it for textures like I do, once you have loaded a texture theme you can close REX and do not need to open it again unless you want load a different theme. Once REX is done copying the textures over for FSX to use it's job is then done. Also, how do I make the route track appear on ASE? If you use something like FSBuild or Flightsim Commander to make your flight plans. You have the option to export to FSX, PMDG, Level-D and other planes etc. For example: If I make a plan from Boston to Dublin. It will save a copy of the flight plan as KBOSEIDW in Flight Simulator X Files Folder (In My Documents Folder) Go to the Desktop open Activesky and click on the Briefing Button. Click on the Change Flight Plan button and then Click on the Import Button. If the path is correct and a flight plan is made you should see it and can import it. After you do that add your Alternate Airport, Cruise speed and Cruise Altitude and then click Process. When it asks you if you want to install a Snapshot you click cancel. The Snapshot is mostly for Xgraphics which is another program by Hi-Fi with Texture themes like REX. If you do not have Xgraphics you would just hit the cancel button when asked to load a snapshot. Now your done and your flight plan is loaded and you will see it on the map. Also anytime you click on the Briefing button with a plan loaded you will see all the weather conditions for the entire route. Paul Deemer
