Weird ATIS runway approach calls

Featured Replies

Recently I have noticed ATIS referencing non existant runway (visual approaches) that don't exist in several airports. For example KSAT has Rwy 12/30, and 3/21. ATIS is telling me rwy 5 visual, rwy 6 visuak, rwy 7 visual, and the like. Has anyone seen this? Wondering if a file like "airports" or something got corrupted. I have used Ultimate Terrain and Ground Environment for years with no problem. Only recent adds are the two 737 products which I really like. This problem occurs even with default AC like the C172. I am stumped -any ideas?

The airport .bgl files contain RWY designators frozen in time, while in the RW RWY mag headings change over the years. especially if you/your aircraft's FMC update AIRAC data. Cheers, - jahman.

Magnetic headings don't change from 30 to 70 degrees in a few years. I think something else is wrong... not that I have any idea what that could be, sorry.

I would bet the airports in question have addon AFD files (formerly known as Afcads) that are using the crosswind runway technique that adds several fake runways to convince FS that all runways are parallel. It's the end-users choice, wacky ATIS or less realistic runway usage. regards,Joe

Of course they don't! (But the changes in RWY headings you mentioned in your OP were a lot smaller.) Cheers, - jahman.

Hi Jahman, It is possible I misunderstood the OP but it looks like he was at an airport with runways 03/21 and 12/30 and was hearing callouts for runways with 06 and 07 headings. This was my reasoning for 30+ degrees. You are correct, though: I should have said 30-40 degrees difference. I was typing too quickly and interchanged difference in heading with the actual heading in the callout.

Hi all, I am the OP and was probably not very clear. First of all i have no add on scenery or avcads etc of any kind. This problem just started fairly recently. IAtis is trying to specify approaches to a sequential, non existent string of runways. Each runway named is an increment of one greater than the last. For example 16,17,18,19,and so forth. The winds given seem logical. I just exit out of ATIS as it is gibberish. I have to believe some reference file or pointer is corrupted. I was just wondering if anyone had seen this or had ideas what to look for. I am not going to reinstall everything for just this as overall I have a fairly decent performing I5-750 and can run both of the new 737 products with very few issues.!

Did you disregard my post? Is this happening at airports that are default, or only at airports that you have added an addon? This behavior is a known issue when applying the crosswind runway technique that adds very short runways every 7 degrees, or there abouts, which would show up in ATIS as sequential runways. If you don't believe me then go to FSDeveloper.com and ask them. regards,Joe

He said he has no add-on scenery... I am assuming that means no airports.

My bad, guess I missed that line when I read his reply. regards,Joe

Timmer, you seem quick to refute other responses without a solution, yet you "assume", like everyone else. I agree, it surely seems as if the OP has an AFD file that has the crosswind runway technique implemented somewhere in his FSX installation.

Thanks to all. I will double check for any afcads. If I have any at all there would have been few and perhaps done a couple of years ago. I don't like to add airport scenery. I will report back if I can confirm. Thanks again!

Thanks.I found two add on scenery files. One for Navy Pensacola. One for Austin. I unchecked both, then deleted the files and rebooted. Still having the issue. San Anonio KSAT only has Rwys 12/30 and 3/21 yet ATIS is calling 5R,5L,6R.6L,7R,7L,8R,8L,9R,9L,12R,12L. But no 30R or 30L. I once upon atime used WOA traffic. Now using MyTraffic X latest version. Maybe this is an Airport file issue? I dont know where ATIS gets the runway data. Not a big issue, but if anyone has an idea that would be great. Regards,Bill

Depending on which version of MyTrafficX you have, it enhances up to 2400 airports. http://secure.simmar...fic-x-pro.phtml FS gets the ATIS data from the stock files unless there is an addon for that specific airport. If this were a problem with the stock files many would have seen it. I suspect MyTrafficX is the cause here. regards,Joe

go to avsim library and search for the airport's code under the AFCAD files section
