September 3, 201114 yr I've had it on the 10k Raptor for 3 years now. May give SSD a try someday but for now, no reason to. Regards, Max (YSSY) i7-12700K | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB 3600MHz DDR4 | Gigabyte RTX4090 24Gb | Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 | Corsair HX1200 PSU
September 3, 201114 yr I'm using 2 Velociraptors (150GB and the other 300GB) and a 750GB 7200 RPM. For FS I only use the 300 one. I don't believe an upgrade to ssd is worth it, since the price is way too high.

September 4, 201114 yr a Raptor is a waste of money...get 2 Samsung 500gb put them on Raid...and everything is set. My Youtube Channel (P3D/FSX/X-Plane Videos and much more!)
September 4, 201114 yr SSD + fanless PC = 0db. Absolutely quiet. Only cooling fins, no watercooling pump sound, nothing. It's not only the faster loading times that are nice, but that one doesn't need to defrag is a grat performance advantage, plus the fact that a SSD is much less prone to fail!
September 4, 201114 yr ...plus the fact that a SSD is much less prone to fail! I have actually read a number of people's comments stating just the opposite. Unless technology has advanced, I do believe SSDs have a limited number of writes for each sector. I think many folks believe that because there are no moving parts, that an SSD is almost "fail proof", and that is simply not the case. There are quite a few cases of SSDs failing, and failing hard. Read reviews at Newegg for insight into that. Ack.. While I do like the increased speed of a SSD, I certainly would not use one without a strog backup drive. I think "value" really comes into play here and nobody can really determine that except for each end-user. IMO, and just IMO, I don't find the decrease in load times/boot times/etc..sufficient to warrant the cost of an SSD. September 4, 201114 yr Author Did I mention "really quiet"?? Not kidding BTW - it is fast, smooth, and quiet. For $100 for a 64 GB Kingston SSD, that is not that bad... and forcing yourself to keep the FSX installto under 64 GB is not such a crazy idea either.. Berte - I am sold on the idea of a SSD in principle, just not at 64GB - and certainly not at the price of anything bigger either. My previous install was 150G large. The idea of constantly swapping things about and reinstalling sceneries doesn't really appeal to me, but I can see where you are coming from.
September 4, 201114 yr Author Quick count of results so far (cuz I really have nothing better to do ) Raptor................. 3 (including me)SSD......................7Standard HDD......7 Surprising...SSD's seem to be on the up.
September 4, 201114 yr I use two 500gig 7200 rpm drives in RAID configuration for the operating system an all programs except FSX. For FSX I have a dedicated 1tb 72oorpm drive, works fine for me. September 4, 201114 yr SSD is the best way for FSX Failure? just make sure you keep a backup of the entire partition.. If the SSD fails? just replace it with another one. The prices are getting cheaper every quarterly. Personally, I would ONLY go for Intel or Kingston SSDs
