Janet PMDG NGX for the "Secret Shuttle" Mission

Recommended Posts

Thanks a lot for the Janet painting. Hope you do this one for the -600 as well once it's released. I'll surely do this mission with the NGX, even because I LOVE this one. It's one of the best missions in my opinion, if not THE best. I haven't flow this since I got the NGX because the default 737 now looks like... you know... trash. I just can't fly it again. But with this paint, I'll definitely revisit this great mission.

BTW, how did you change the aircraft so that the mission starts with the NGX? I tried too find a way, but couldn't do it. Did you use the SDK?

Ya know, I suppose that would be useful information. I really shouldn't post after bedtime. Here's how to do it: Go to your FSX root folder/missions/pilot for hire/secretshuttle, then make a backup of the SecretShuttle.FLT file in case you need it. Then open the file with note pad or other text editor, scroll about 3/4 of the way down to a section called [sim.0], in that section change the entry after "sim=" to the title of the plane you want as it appears in the "title" section of the plane's aircraft.cfg., ( it would read "Sim=Boeing 737-800NGX Janet" without quotations if using my repaint, for example) save the file and you should be good to go. Let me know if any of that was unclear. The coordinates for the waypoints are listed in that file also. I need to teach myself to program them into the Nav database. I used the ADF for guidance (MCY freq 326).

Oh my! I found the folder with all the files and stuff, but I didn't know that FLT files could be read by the notepad. That's why I didn't find a way to change it. I didn't even tried to open this one. Thanks for the tip. Another question: Is there a way to create waypoints in the NG based on coordinates or position related to another fix or navaid? I know it's possible in the MD-11. There's a page in the CDU where you can do that. I'm not talking about PB/D or P/D waypoints in the LEGS page. And also: Mercury NDB seems not to be on the navigation database anymore. If I enter MCY in the LEGS page, it leads me to an NDB a few thousand miles away from LAS.

The Freq for the MCY NDB is 326. You can tune it manually and follow the needle on the ADF. I'm fairly certain we could get the coord's plugged into the nav database, I just haven't taken the time to look it up in the manual yet. I used KLAS as both my origin and destination in the mean time.

What we could do is edit the navaid, fix and airport CFGs in the navdata folder and include the MCY, AR51 and Pyramid waypoint. I'll do that right now, BTW. Add the following to Airports.dat: AR51 37.247350-115.814169 Add the following to Wpnavaid.txt: MERCURY MCY NDB 36.627461-116.027529326.00N Add the following to Wpnavfix.txt: PYD PYD 36.962500-115.979167 Add the following to Wpnavapt.txt: AREA 51 AR5112 05500123 37.234366-115.810737000.0012304451AREA 51 AR5130 05500303 37.219020-115.794020000.0030304451AREA 51 AR5114R11960143 37.265334-115.816760000.0014304451AREA 51 AR5132L11963323 37.219584-115.792615000.0032304451AREA 51 AR5114L23000143 37.248162-115.800233000.0014304451AREA 51 AR5132R23000323 37.217848-115.784245000.0032304451 Don't forget to line everything up when you paste the lines to the CFGs or it will not work. Now you're set to go. You also have to add this everytime you install a new AIRAC. Now, when you're flying from McCarran to Area 51, you enter KLAS as departure and AR51 as arrival. The route is MCY, then PYD, which is Pyramid waypoint. Select the runway you wish to land on, which should be RWY 32R in the mission and you're done. Alright, now we can start our Janet Virtual Airlines and do some flights to and from Area 51 LOL.gif BTW, I didn't add runways 03, 21, 09 and 27 because those are dirt runways and 737s are not supposed to land on them.

Just one thing. The coordinates for Pyramid that I have do not match with the one in FSX. If someone can convert the following coordinates: N37º 03,94' W115º 63,98' into decimal degrees, I'd appreciate. Don't have time to do it now. That's the coordinates given in FSX's flight plan for Pyramid.

I found this on another PMDG board: 36.962500-115.973611 for pyramid You're awesome, btw! Side note, I made myself a new thumbnail for the livery. If anyone else wants it, save it and rename it thumbnail.jpg and drop it in the Janet texture folder. Janet.jpg

Job to convert THAT - no such thing as 94 seconds or 98 seconds. I would assume they mean N37 03' 56" and W115 63' 58" John Ellison

That coordinate is the same I have. This one does not match with the one given by FSX's flight plan. I'm starting a flight now, but when I reach cruise I'll try to find a converter. Nice thumbnail, btw.

That's not the degrees, minutes and seconds format. That's Degrees and decimal minutes.

Regarding Pyramid, I see it as LAT 37.0660332090244 LONG -115.732083320618. Its called Chert Ridge on Google Maps. This equates to 11.5 NM., QDM 326 to Area 51 Airbase. Unless the Coords in my FSX are incorrect?
I'll try this one. Can't test it now because I'm in the middle of a flight with the NGX. But as soon as I have time, I'll check. If you got this one from FSX, it should be correct, at least relating to FSX's flight plan.

It accepts AR51 as my destination now but I don't have either waypoints or any runways showing up. Any clues as to what I may be overlooking?

Don't forget to add some spaces between some of the codes. I added them whe I was posting, but the server removed them. I'll try to repors using dots in the place of spaces. That way you just change the dots for blanks. EDIT: MERCURY.................MCY..NDB..36.627461-116.027529326.00N PYD.....................PYD...36.962500-115.979167 AREA 51.................AR5112 05500123 37.234366-115.810737000.0012304451AREA 51.................AR5130 05500303 37.219020-115.794020000.0030304451AREA 51.................AR5114R11960143 37.265334-115.816760000.0014304451AREA 51.................AR5132L11963323 37.219584-115.792615000.0032304451AREA 51.................AR5114L23000143 37.248162-115.800233000.0014304451AREA 51.................AR5132R23000323 37.217848-115.784245000.0032304451 One thing: If there's only ONE dot, DO NOT remove it. Only change dots to spaces where there's TWO or MORE dots.

Great news, Ryan. Since PMDG finds a way for everything, could you find a list of the equipments available in the Janet's 737s? j/kI'll definetly download this one and maybe do my my premiere of the -600 with Janet's livery.

The Janet -600's are mostly ex Air China birds. I'll look up some cockpit photos to match the equipment the best I can.

Good catch. I read about it in Wikipedia, but forgot about that. I'll try to find some pics later as well.

I appreciate that! It was my second repaint. It's a good one to do for practice if you're a nOOb to repaints, like myself.
