I think your answer might be a little too verbose, so maybe you should strive to keep your answers a little shorter in the future. Whistle.gif

Yep ... I remember Flight Unlimited from Looking Glass Studios ... I owned 1, 2 and 3. And unlike Microsoft and whatever new division they create for leisure software, they always listened. Every now and again you get a bunch of guys who are extremely talented who gel together and do great things, LGS also did some of the best game classics ever like UW1, UW2, SS, Thief and Thief 2 ... as anyone who has played these games will now, we will probably never see the likes again and with the advent of consoles the hardcore users of the game series in particular make them live on with mods. The Flight Unlimited series was something else though ... it was way way ahead of anything Microsoft were doing at the time with their own FS series (FS98 I think it was) not just in graphic quality, but they were pushing the flight models and especially the weather system ... also back then, Looking Glass were doing missions that until FSX, MS only dreamed of. I like Avsim, but sometimes the MS worship towards their current Flight Sim division borders on religion IMHO.

Flight unlimited land area covered - 13,000 sq milesFSX land area covered - 57,510,000 sq miles now you guys praise Flight unlimited and come down hard on the rumor that Flight might be Hawaii only. Perhaps if Flight covered areas similar to flight unlimited it could have all the features you guys long for from flight unlimited.

A difference between the two though, is that Flight's developers essentially already have that other area of the world at their hands, it having evolved over several iterations of FS, whereas when Flight Unlimited had a terrain limit, they were on version 3, so a fairer comparison would perhaps be with FS3. FS3 covered the United States, but there were only airports in the San Franscisco area over a few hundred square miles. Any other scenery was payware subLOGIC stuff. Al

how do you compare FU3 and FS3? FU3 was released in 1999, FS3 was released in 1988, the computer storage and ram available between those 11 years are huge different

Go back to sleep, the same time frame and comparison was FU3 and FS98, they were both released on or around the same time. I honestly wonder if MS employ sheep to confuse and obfuscate!!!

I'm not comparing computer capabilities, I'm comparing the amount of development cycles the two products had been through. FS is over 25 years old, which is why it has the world coverage it does, through successive iterations and the work of those spread over that period of time. At three iterations, it had a more comparable database to what FU had at three iterations. This is the main stumbling block for anyone contemplating creating a new sim from scratch, since it instantly has to stack up against 25 years' worth of work, but where MS are concerned, they do not face that stumbling block with Flight, because they can draw upon the legacy of work from FS.
