Freeze during flight

Featured Replies

The only difference is I had to load the CDU manually on the queen, rather than using a saved route as on the 737. I doubt that this is connected as it crashed in different places. I suppost I could manually load the route again and try the 737 on this basis. Otherwise I will uninstall and try again.
Odd that you should mention that because when I try to load a From/To manually in my MD-11's FMC, more or less exactly similar to yours, I get a total lock-up on the sim,and have to kickstart it all over again. Loading a saved .*.rte no problem. Gets pretty frustrating specially when 10 minutes into an FS2Crew pre-flight. Somebody somewhere in these Forums has expressed a thought or two about MS who I feel well and truly screwed up with this particular sim just as they did with W95,then the 2 joke OSs, WinME and Vista.

After about 20 or so flights I had a freeze today. As I was preparing to land at KSAN from Equador (6.2 hour flight) I was using the FMC heavily loading waypoints when my FSX froze. This is first freeze in a while. Common theme though, I was punching something into FMC when it happened. Upset as I was, I relaunched FSX and flew a very brief flight over Chicago (KORD to KMDW) in the 747-400. Flawless, good FPS and a nice treat going back to the "big" bird. John S

My last 737 NGX ended in diaster. All crew and passengers lost. 737NGX not at fault... This was due I think to having reached 250 miles out and RC putting it on pause. Windows Update then seems to have crashed in and decided to restart the PC. Nice. Positive step is that presumably the PC had not frozen at that point. Test flight 4 under way.

Thanks for that Update David. As a further aid,I'd suggest much as it is advisable to have Windows Updates, you take control of when you update Windows. That way you will not have it kicking in whilst you are flying. Are you by any chance using some kind of network server connection software, i.e. Source: SceCliFLIGHTSERVER.Proppro.local

Yes I work from home and have a SBS server. I use two PC's for flying - 'flightserver' and 'flightclient' Flightsever runs FSX and at the moment Radar Contact. ASE runs on the client, to try and reduce the load. I really need to upgrade Flightserver, but not happening for now.

Thanks for that. It may now point towards a possible solution. Is there any way you run both RC, ASE, and FSX from one rig with just a normal joe-bloggs-everyday-Bb connection, and see if it freezes? If it does not then I'd hazard a safe bet and say it cannot be the aircraft.

I'll just land my test flight 4 as it's looking good so far... (I say just, it's paused at 250 miles and that's where it will stay until the daughter is in bed and my parents sent on their way... I'm leaning to a fault in the routing that I loaded. Why it happened in different places is perplexing. The routing was created using routefinder, to make the route, which was then pasted into FS Build, which then saved it into PMDG format.

until the daughter is in bed and my parents sent on their way.. Must applaud your commendable sense of duty, and it now looks hopeful that you will now crack this. Patience has its virtues.

7 hour 17 minute flight fromm MMAA to PHNL, no issues at all. Seems things are actually more stable the more I fly this bird.

I never saw my question answered with regard to this - is this with hotfix 4? A bunch of this kind of thing was fixed in it. If you haven't tried it yet, please do.

I have NOT applied HF4. Things are working really well for me right now, And I had a load of freezes early on. Once I dumped shadows on plane and cast by plane on ground, and gradually moved all sliders to right, with Auto Gen and the other setting on right to "very Dense", things have been awesome. I did remove NGX completely and re-install HF3 first, then I played with FSX settings and the plane is phenomenal. John S

Yes with HF4.I finally got to do a whole test flight, or not. PC froze again. This happens even when paused at 250 nm (by rc4). I will retry a flight tommorow with just the plane and no extra's. Could this be a problem caused by what seems already to be a dated system...

i think i had my very first freeze with the Hotfix 4. I was just comming on vectors and would switch from LNAV to Heading but the plain did not follow heading but keep tracking LNAV although MCP Heading button was showing heading, I must say that the wind was very strange almost like it was in a loop or dejavu. i used ASE so maybe it screwed up something.? The plain just went straight on LNAV and then crashed to desktop /Michael

I also did a flight with HF4 and got regular sim freezes (granted I was flying over FTX Australia scenery but I have a powerful system). In each case FSX froze for a few seconds then continued. Then on finals the freeze didn't recover and I had to kill the FSX process. After loading from an autosaved flight I managed to land successfully (way too fast but that was my fault ;)). Which leads me to think, could the Autosave feature in FSUIPC have something to do with that? I noticed that the NGX panel state is saved every time a flight is saved because I get dozens of saved panel states called "Autosave...". I will try running with Autosave disabled next flight.Dave
