"wow" was all i could say last night... :)just for the hell of it (and a bit as a learning experience) i bought a sectional and a tac for my town yesterday (no, i'm not a pilot). then i flew a couple of vfr circuits in a 150, one to the west and one to the northeast of cytz, some four hours altogether.i didn't need the usual electronic navigation crutches once in those four hours. every stack, mast, stream, road, railway and power line marked on the tac was where it should be in the sim. a good mesh and fairly accurate landclass data made tracking terrain features, towns and villages a pleasure...just try it. :)vilk

As an aside, our esteemed colleague Matt Fox has graciously uploaded a slew of high res jpg's of many sectionals and TACs in the last week or so. See the AVSIM library's Navigation section, and sort by date - the first 70 (!!!) files are what you'll be looking for.Enjoy!sg

70 jpgs of sections...WOW!... is that legal?

What a great little airport!! Toronto City Centre (CYTZ) is one of my favorite airports (both in the RealWorld and in the sim). Since the demise of Meigs, it rates tops on my list of waterfront approaches. Dangerous though ... flying final past the CN Tower can make you forget all about the approaching runway!!:-hah.The detail in the default MS scenery is pretty accurate and makes VFR flight in the area a lot of fun. Make sure you don't fly over the harbour islands though ... a bunch of spoiled residents out there that would love to pull a Mayor Daley and turn CYTZ into a park :-newburnHappy flying!!

hey, i said i bought mine, ok?:)

yup, taking off rwy 6 in poor weather can get you close to some massive "landmarks" there...but i agree it's a cute setup. i hear they have a school there, too. if i ever take the plunge, cytz it is!:)greetings from t.o.!vilk

and the canadian ones?

Congratulations. Now after flying true VFR, you might find it hard to go back to those 767's and the usual routine which goes something like this:1. Take off2. AP Master, NAV, SPD, ALT3. Go do something else for 5 hours4. LandIt's about as fun as defragmenting the harddrive ;)The Dreamfleet/Flight1 Archer and C152 are the most fun for VFR IMO. They've really got some character and the VC's are awesome. Some of the default vintage planes are also quite fun, like the Cub and Vega and even the Jenny (becuase you have to concentrate on keeping the plane flying AND trying to navigate). If you really enjoy VFR, you should look at some of the photo-sceneries (UK, Megascenery, and the opcomming Switzerland) since they are even more realistic.

Canadians pay taxes too! Not all of it goes to healthcare.;)

Is there a easy way to convert the JPG or TIF sectional chart file formats into a format that could be used with FSFlightMax?Thanksjim b

CYTZ is where I got my ticket. What a neat place to fly in and out of. I always liked the Scarboro bluffs and the downtown views!Even still have my t-shirt they gave me when I solo'd. It says "I solo'd with Central". Pretty old now.Don

thanks for the suggestions guys!matter of fact, i've never flown a heavy in fs, not even a twin prop. just never occured to me i guess... i can't hope to get in that business, too late for that, but i can definitely relate to flying a 150 from the airfield i see from my window. i think i must be in this whole fs thing for the "realism" part, "gaming" is an alien concept to my over-serious self.:)i was considering f1 152 for a while, i've heard a lot of good things about it, but i find their distribution mechanism outrageous. i'm a full-time professional programmer myself and i understand their concerns, but there are limits to the assumption of bad faith i can take.:)i found some nice skins for the gforce 150, completely redesigned its cockpit, both flat and virtual, tweaked the model a bit and i just love the baby. the fact that cytz is home to several of them must be a factor, too...:)wow, after a tumultuous software design meeting, nothing beats a post to the forum!greetings all!vilk

oh well, you guys make me nostalgic, too. i was planning to start flying this spring, but an unfortunate medical accident on christmas day made me postpone my plans. and i mean "unfortunate"--the delay may be indefinite.i'll try to stick to the plan, but for now... thanks god for fs! :Dvilk
