AMD to release the 8-core beast.

I bought the NGX after much thought. I was concerned about running it with an AMD Phenum 965 Quad, I purchased an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Mobo in anticipation of the Bulldozer CPU.I was not at all happy with it;s single thread IPC performance so I installed an 1100T and overclocked it to 3.98Ghz. I tried a flight. Took off from JFK, frames bounced around between 12-17 in VC a bit higher in 2D cockpit. After take off the FPS would climb to 26-27. No stutters or video artifacts, the sim was smooth. KJFK - KMCO, after 20 minutes or so the sim froze. I was switching views like a maniac amazed at the whole ball of wax if you will! Looking, looking and more looking, amazed at everything going on inside and out of the airplane, panels etc,Then I made a good move, IMHO. I looked at the "Introductory doc's" and followed PMDG's advice on how to set up FSX for the NGX. One of the smartest move I ever made, if you don't mind my saying so.Now the frames are still low compared to a higher rated machine BUT! Now at JFK they reach a few frames over 20 and climb to 33 where FSX is set to. But the point is this! The NGX is the smoothest, nicest sim ever. It fly's better and is more enjoyable than some with higher frame rates, hard to explain but that's the way I see it. Now I find myself using only the VC, nice!PMDG did a good job making/coding the NGX flyable using a less then optimal machine.Have now made many flights, no stutters, freezes, or problems of ANY kind! Just for the record and I saw it in person as well. Whenever the Sandy Bridge came out originally there was an issue with the Sata on the motherboards. At the time my buddy had been leaning towards getting a Sandy Bridge, but because of the Sata Issue he went with an AMD 6 Core over-clocked. I wouldn't give AMD such a bad Rap because he was getting about 150 fps in the air and bursting to 200. On the ground he was getting 40s to low 50s. Of course this was not with the NGX cause he does not have it but he was using the PMDG MD-11. However in the Air on a Q6600 at 3.0 ghz I can only get about 40s in the air, bursting to 60, and 17-22 on the ground. So a 6 core AMD bursting to 200 in the air and 40-50s on the ground is a long way from what I got.
The 6gb sata controller on p67 boards were sometimes faulty, I had one fizzle myself. I knew about the problem & bought a pre-recall board anyway. I could have kept going with just the 3gb ports, but I opted for a new z68. Every product has its place in the market & amd does make good CPUs. They will run fsx well. It's just that sandybridge is still the current king for both clock speed and ipc, which makes it naturally a better CPU for fsx.If somebody wants to run amd that's fine. As long as they're satisfied with how their system runs then that's all that matters.

Anyway, I'll buy my 32-core @ 16,4ghz system in 2016 and fly the PMDG 737 MAX8 at 589FPS :-)
LMAO.gif that's so funny. I hope it will be like that.

Peculiar that there are so many talking about FPS and how much FPS in FSX, when themost important thing is having a flight, which is SMOOTH and with no STUTTER what so ever.Don´t stare on the FPS, enjoy your flight instead and feel if ithave those 2 things above. That´s all that matters./ Leffe

Hi Pilots"FPS matters" is like women saying "Size matters".If you are able to fly "Her" smoth and without "stutters" that's all it needs ;-)Oliver

I agree the 2500K and a GTX500 series card is currently the best way to go for now. But It wont be King for much longer. With IVY Bridge and the Nvidia 600 series coming out in Quarter 1 of 2012 that will be the new King Supreme. Since it only a few months away I am putting off my upgrade until then.

Right on!I ordered the Tracker-5. Should be here tomorrow, I doubt if I will ever see the 2D cockpit again. At some point I'll try running it on the big TV. With the Wide Screen option set, and if it works I may never watch TV again!Or buy another.Did it with FS9 but the gages were not exactly round, Buck Bolduc

Fly with 15FPS and TrackIR with a hand flown ILS.... Size matters, by the way. I'm no chubby chaser.

Yes, I'm anxious to see what ivy bridge is capable of doing myself even if I won't be upgrading. My current setup is good enough to last until I accumulate enough addons to bog it down.
