November 25, 201114 yr Author Well, things looking up. I have installed FS-SIMtimizer.exe and it works brilliantly. Great little programme: I had no idea this existed. Also thanks for the correction re. the Vertical Sync line in the fsx.cfg file - a bit obvious when I look at it (but I didn't!). It certainly improves things when I am using FS-SIMtimizer.exe, though I still get a bit of wobbling when I pan. Not like before though, when it was like a jelly.I am using GMap but have downloaded PlanG too. I'll try it out. Does anyone have a strong preference for one over the other? I'll test them side by side..Really useful stuff. Many thanks again everyone for the information.(Oh, BTW, I am a mobile phone Luddite, and proud of it: my Nokia makes calls and sends texts, that's about it!!).Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
November 25, 201114 yr Author OK, I have had a real blitz on FSX today - the results are nice and I dare say I will fly it more often in the future - it's been on my machine for 3 years or more, pretty much unused (as I like FS9 so much, with all my addons). I think I shall continue to fly FS9 for my Airbus/Boeing medium/long haul, but FSX really comes into its own for local VFR flying... I guess most people here were aware of that years ago!The FS-SIMtimizer has made all things possible (thanks for that, Ruespe!!!). I can now load up PlanG (very nice) or G-Map and have the map open on my second monitor whilst to all intents and purposes have FSX in Full Screen mode on the other (no one's going to quibble about one little pixel!).In addition I have spent a couple of hours setting up my aircraft views so that they approximate to what I get when I use my X52 in FS9: Spot, Cockpit & VC. The other views in FSX are odd (IMHO) and I was getting a bit frustrated trying to find the ones I wanted before. Now I have set to work on the camera.cfg file and all my aircraft.cfg files, things are great - and predictable as I change views. So, a happy bunny (at the present time anyhow: you never know what FS will bring next time you fire it up, I have found!). Can't wait for Aerosoft AntarcticaX now, in preparation for which I did all this tweaking and posting. Thanks for the help,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
December 10, 201114 yr Author Still good, but the happiness of the bunny is still a little compromised by the fact that when I pan or bank the plane sharply, the textures (ground and clouds) ripple/billow/wobble - however you want to call it. With FS-SIMtimizer I am not really of course in Full screen mode, even though it looks as if I am. In true Full Screen mode I don't get this effect. I already have VertSync on in nVidia Inspector. Is there anything else I can do to fix this? Thanks,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
December 10, 201114 yr Martin,There is nothing you can do as has been explained before. If you are going to run multiple monitors off of one PC running FSX you will have to run FSX in windowed mode. Vsync does not work in windowed mode. FS-SIMtimixer just removes the window bounding box. You are still running FSX in windowed mode when utilizing the program.Regards,Bob

I use a second monitor, but need vsync on especially with my Track IR. Currently I run full screen and use the second monitor to display my gps, radio stack, kneeboard, and atc .At times I think it would be nice to be able to have access to other programs on that second monitor but can do without, if I really need to access something I just alt-tab out for a moment. December 10, 201114 yr Then your best option is a networked computer with those other programs installed on that machine.
December 10, 201114 yr You can, of course, run multiple monitors off of one PC running FSX (I currently use four of them). What you can't do is having another Windows desktop available for external applications while in FSX fullscreen. The reason for the blackout of the other screens is because FSX makes all of them go fullscreen (but empty by default), which is usually a good thing since they're available for extra views and 2d panels and stuff. If you want to display an external application (outside of FSX) such as a moving map, you need to run in windowed mode (which is usually a bad thing), or better, get a second PC and connect using FSUIPC or simconnect. This can be any old piece of hardware really. Running such applications on a networked PC is also a good thing for the performance since the FSX PC doesn't have to waste CPU cycles on all the 3rd party applications. As for the vsync in windowed mode if you really want to go that way, see if http://forum.avsim.net/topic/283143-fsx-vsync-fix/ works (skip the fullscreen parts).
December 12, 201114 yr Author I guess I won't be able to get this to work then. Bob says that it is impossible to have VertSync on in FSX when it is not in proper full-screen mode (so my ForceWindowedVSync=1 entry is redundant?). - ed. but see my follow-up post. My choice is between running FSX with FS-SIMtimizer and getting vertical sync problems, but being able to see the great PlanG map on my other screen, or running FSX in full screen mode and having really nice smooth graphics, but with no PlanG map. Will probably have to be the latter - though I thought I had read that it is possible to get PlanG to run within FSX as a module - in the way that FSNavigator does in FS9. Probably my memory is playing me false since as far as I can see there is no such option with PlanG (no "PlanG.dll file that is!). I sort of experimented with having PlanG open on the same monitor as FSX and switching between them with Alt+Tab, but of course that just sends FSX to the taskbar.Does anyone know of a similar map to PlanG which will work like FSNav does in FS9? If the map has to show on the same screen as FSX and my second monitor stays black, so be it. Otherwise, I suppose I will have to rely on the limited map functions in the Garmin 500..Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
December 12, 201114 yr Author Later .. actually, some of what I said above is not true. I have VertSync set to Force On in both the nVidia Control Panel and in the FSX profile in nVidia Inspector. (I tried with other settings but with both set to Force On seems to give the best results). I still get some vertical sync problems if I pan around in spot view, but nothing too horrendous. If I remove the ForceWindowedVSync=1 line from the FSX.cfg file, the ground textures more or less tear themselves apart as I pan round, so the line is certainly fixing something, even if it is not 100% effective. My questions above remain but I am not so sure now about whether I am better flying in Full Screen mode with no PlanG map or using FS-SIMtimizer so that I can use the map and put up with the slight sync problems that produces. There are a few posters in the thread at http://forum.avsim.n...-fsx-vsync-fix/ who say they have got this to work in windowed mode however. Perhaps they've just got as far as I have - making things 90% better rather than having windowed mode run just as well as full screen mode...M Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
December 13, 201114 yr Author ... there is also an unequivocal 'no', at the end - this will never work in windowed mode. Disappointing. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
December 15, 201114 yr You can run both FSX and the any program like the Electronic Flight Bag on full screen by completely loading FSX first on your primary monitor, then activate the second monitor, then load up EFB. I've been running both on full screen mode and it works great for me. I'm on windows 7 64bit. with two graphic cards on SLI.CaptMac
December 15, 201114 yr Author Sounds good, but I don't understand it I'm afraid: I load up FSX on the first screen, first in windowed mode, then I switch to full screen. My 2nd. monitor (what do you mean by 'activate' it?) goes black as soon as I switch FSX to full screen. I have one GTX470 - not two. No idea if that would make a difference or not. Thanks,M Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
December 15, 201114 yr Sorry Martinest2 let me do a better job in explaining:1. Secondary monitor should be off2. Start fsx and put it in windowed mode on your primary monitor, this is so you can see the task bar, after FSX has loaded up....3. Activate the second monitor4. You can now load up any programs for fsx on the second monitor, mine is electronic flightbag, fspassenger, and radar contact, you can put them in full screen mode if you like5. Move fsx to full screen, the secondary screen should still be on and in full screen. The only problem is if you have to adjust any programs on the secondary monitor you have to put fsx in windowed mode until your done. I'm looking for a solution to that on.Hope that helps. :)CaptMac
