The IMF, which our real money (not printed) lies. Will we bail them out?Geez, whats nextBob
With what? The IMF gets its money from its member states, who's various Congresses and Parliaments must vote on any expansion of individual funding...I know the USA contributes around 20% of all IMF funding, and right now, its an election cycle on top of massive anti-bail out mania... our congress certainly isn;t going to increase funding.Infact the Party who currently controls The House of Reps, where all spending bills must originate has all but said they won;t fund it, infact they want to introduce legislation barring it from actually happening.http://thehill.com/h...mbling-eurozoneAnd regarding "real money" vs "printed money"... you do understand its all the same, right? We have been in a confidence based economy for almost 40 years now... all our money is backed by nothing but confidence in the full faith and credit of the government...

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

It is impossible for anyone to be "developing for Flight" given that the beta isn't even available to be examined yet, much less the SDK.There is not one single developer on the planet who has the least idea what the development requirements for Flight will be, much less what the requirements to become a "licensed developer" will be! "We" can make educated guesses, but that's all...No one is allowed to even state that they have signed an NDA with Microsoft, as that is specifically prohibited by the NDA!Under those conditions, it would be kind of tough to say anything at all, other than at best a definitive "We have not signed an NDA." I could be wrong making this analogy, but Flight Sim Platform is like PS3 Platform, its in interest of the platform maker to ensure that thier are addons ready to go at Platform Lunch date, meaning that the Platform development/SDK takes place working with Addon developers. For those of us who are used to FligthSim + Addons , i doubt Basic flight will be much of a catch till addons catchup later.Microsoft idea of releasing SDK and platform at same time means th Addon developers are not viewed as partners but same cattegory as users. This kind of downgrading of addon developers role will make it very easy for MS to takeover addon market if they choose to.I mean if FSUIPC can not be used with Flight i probs cant use flight, it will be nice to know they working the likes of Pete Dawson.
My summary of possibilities is based on economic forces currently moving within the markets. Its not a matter of the BETA will or will not, or that FLIGHT will or will not... its a matter of fundamental economics. If the EU goes pop, it will take the global economy with it, mathematically there is no way around this fact... the Eurozone is the largest economy on Earth, even bigger than the US economy. It touches every single other economy on the planet, from the US and Asian economies to the smallest African and South American economy...My estimation on FLIGHT being canceled is based upon the economy continuing its downward graveyard spiral. If the bottom falls out of the economy, then MS and every other business onto e globe will begin load shedding for purposes of long term survival... and if ACES got the axe during the 2008 down turn... FLIGHT will not survive this one...Because the EU breaking up will make the 2008/09 financial crisis look like a going out of business sale for a small local mom and pop store...
Jacoba - I assume you were not around in 1939, 40,41- as I was. Then there was a REAL crisis in confidence!! I can assure you that today"s financial worries are small potatoes compared to the world situation on Dec 6/1941.I use that date deliberately because then we really thought that the end was near. But Dec 7 1941 changed everything- the United states was now committed and as Winston Churchill said, he then knew that the Allies could NOT be defeated.A solution WILL be found to the debt crisis in both Europe and the USA. There ARE better days ahead.AR

I think your first statement is correct; in fact ACES said as much – they used your term, ‘a platform’.But the analogy goes that PS3 developers can't build for the PS3 until it is done*.FS developer can’t develop simultaneously with MSG.There are very like daily changes made to Flight as it’s being developed. Many would affect the work external developers in unexpected ways, it really isn’t practical IMO.The best situation is an SDK released as or soon after Flight is finished. That was the case for FSX, but not for previously as I recall.* admittedly there are launch titles :) but effectively you need a solid platform to build on :)
...FS developer can’t develop simultaneously with MSG....
Which is why I believe Flight will be compatible with FSX add-Ons:
  1. FS has always been compatible at least one version back.
  2. Flight is not being re-written from scratch.
  3. It is an incredibly dumb idea business-wise to destroy franchise value by not being compatible.
  4. Flight vs. Add-ons is like Intel Tick-Tock: New fersion of FS/Flight, new version of Add-Ons, new version of Flight... You get the idea.

The only way Flight will not be compatible with FSX Add-Ons is if the Flight Program Manager at Microsoft is a covert mole from X-Plane! :Big Grin:Cheers,- jahman.

Thanks , you the second Addon developer to make same comment that the norm is for you guys to wait till the new Flight Platform is released. Being failry new to FS i just assumed otherwise. In that case we wait an see, the good thing for addon devs is that if flight gets canned, you loose nothing. As for the economy and doom an gloom in the air, i say live and let live otherwise something is going to happen just a matter of time, something always goes wrong eventually whereever things aint right, society does not deserve a lot of the respect given it.Let them cancle flight if they want, i will keep upgrading my PC so i can keep turning up those sliders with each upgrade.Somebody please inform microsoft there is always the option to price Flight in Gold,Silver or bushels of corn, this may save the project, i assume most you simmers have already switched from Paper money to tangible assets like i did, right.?.... Its a shame we not getting enough info to determine just how much of the current addons we got will be usable in Flight. You say flight is not being re-writen from scratch, but they not calling it FS2012 either, they chose to call it flight to break away from previous FS versions. Maybe to confuse everybody concerned.I hope your points above are right, cause cant imagine having to start collecting addons for flight like i did for FSXSome poor folks had so much addons , then had to migrate FSX, but i only started simming with FSX not so long ago.
