The X-Factor that could see FLIGHT canceled...

I'm siting here looking at the financial news coming out of the EU... in short, its not good.Bond yields at historical and unsustainable highs, CDS cost on those same bonds at even higher, unsustainable highs... and now I'm looking a the Forex terminal, showing interbank lending (the life blood of the banks) has all but stopped. A record number of EU banks lining up for ECB 7 day money. A sign they are either fronting a bank run or trying to backstop deposits they don;t have the cash on hand to cover... either way its bad... wasn't even this bad during 2008.All of this on top of the current roll overs of massive amounts of Eurozone 3 year and 6 year government debt (about $330 billion Euro's worth) in the next 30 to 90 days and no buyers... even Germany had a partially failed bond auction, which is unheard of...My education, training, knowledge, experience and my gut is all telling me to build a bunker in my backyard...But anyways keeping this FLIGHT related...Recall it was the financial crisis of 2008/09 that saw the closure of ACES...If the EU keeps slowing, the credit markets WILL freeze up, its a mathematical certainty... once that happens the largest economy on the planet (The Euro Zone) will simply stop. As nothing, works without short-revolving lines of credit.Companies have no ability to stock, move or replenish inventory or even make payroll for that matter...One the largest economy on the globe goes POP!!! It will hit every other economy to some degree... the more exposure a given economy has to the EU the worse it'll be for them... So when the once held unthinkable happens even places like the US will not escape the shockwaves. One can only image its going to hit everyone, including Microsoft... which means cuts...I'm guessing that FLIGHT will get the axe, just like ACES did...Folks not trying to turn this into any kind of debate over EU fiscal policy... but to put it plainly its bad over there, regardless of how it happened it's simply now... happening.Pray this thing don't start unspooling... sad.png

You could be right, but on the other hand they've been seeking to hire new people this fall. As for the economy the writing has been on the wall for years, and for the blind, since this summer. If Microsoft wanted to axe Flight they should have done so months ago.

Yes I agree, I think at this point they are far enough along (I hope) with it that nixing it wont happen.

And if it does get canned, so what... FSX is still looking pretty good. And take this with a grain of salt from a guy who likes to invest his money until it's all gone... but it'll highly unlikely we'll see see a repeat of 2008/2009.The world governments are far more coordinated now than they were before. I expect to see some heavy volatility but no neo-depression, and certainly nothing that could be used as a legit excuse to cancel Flight. My two cents.

On the contrary: If the financial crisis unravels it will lead to massive unemployment world-wide. And what will the newly unemployed do with their new free time? Flight-Sim, of course! Big Grin.gif Seriously, recessions do lead to an increase in cheap thrill spending.Cheers,- jahman.

My education, training, knowledge, experience and my gut is all telling me to build a bunker in my backyard...
Repent now sinners lest ye be stricken at the feet of the crumbling economy, for the time is nigh!

Well, you are right in one regard... we are unlikely to see a repeat of 2008/09 because the .gov's are nowhere near the shape they were before, financially and will not be able to recapitalize the banks as they did during the collapse of Lehman and Bear Stearns.Nearly every serious Economist all agree, we are staring into the abyss and it will be much worse than 2008/09...As far as .govs being more coordinated now that before, I had to laugh at that one... as you either are trying to be funny or simply have no knowledge nor conceptual grasp of the situation and how we arrived here...The crisis we are looking squarely into the face of today eclipse's the entirety of all of 2008/09 multiplied by a factor of 3 or 4...

I read those arguments all the time, and no disrespect intended, it's usually from people who own a lot of gold, or who are selling gold, and who are praying for the Apocalypse so their pretty yellow rocks can go up in value.Rough times and volatility, yes... the End of the World, no.Flight will not be cancelled on account of Greece or Italy - You heard it hear first, folks! If it's cancelled, I'd bet it's cancelled for other reasons.Of course, this is all just speculative hypothesis... I could be wrong!

Folks long in gold, can goods and shotguns are indeed loons... Yes we are heading for some VERY rough times, no one has said the world was going to end, just the financial world as we know it... Its mathematically unsustainable... this fact has never been in doubt nor disputed. All the rose colored its all gonna be okay stories were all based on completely ridiculous growth models for the EU and the USA... models that were never achievable even during the real boom times....Even the head of the ECB's Governing Council has come out saying Europe's situation has significantly worsened... http://www.cnbc.com/id/45485776

Ms is used to close projects even at later stages, it did the same for Railroad Simulator 2 and that can be smoothly be done also for Flight.I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Recently released computer games are producing a LOT of revenue, so it is not like the consumer base has suddenly dried up."Zenimax Media Inc issued a press release today, touting some pretty impressive numbers for the first week’s release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The company has shipped over seven million copies spanning the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC platforms. The launch units are expected to generate over $450 million in revenue globally. According to Zenimax, over 50% of all units sold were in the first 48 hours of launch. In the first 24 hours of its release on Steam, " Source"Electronic Arts' massive shooter just keeps on selling. CFO Eric Brown announced during today's Baird Technology Conference in San Francisco the game has now sold 8 million copies to date. This is up from the 5 million EA sold during the game's first week on sale in late October. Brown continued to say the publisher has now shipped 12 million copies of Battlefield 3. It shipped 10 million in the first week for comparison." Source

"Folks long in gold, can goods and shotguns are indeed loons..." OTOH, if the meltdown doesn't happen, you can eat the gold, shoot the stew, and enjoy spending clay pigeons. What's so looney in all that, who hoo hoo hoo!
