December 14, 201114 yr Hello.I was just wondering what the best way is to line up with the runway before takeoff?Of course, I want to use as much of the runway as possible. So the question is, when should I start the turn to line up with the runway? And is there a way to remember it? Like when the centerline is past one of the windows, etc? December 14, 201114 yr You just need to get a feel for it.Also dont feel bad if your take-off is wobbly, as in difference to real world, our pedals give us full range of nose wheel steering, whereas real pilots will only have 7° or so on pedals, leading to a possibility of much more precise guidance. --Peter Fabian
December 14, 201114 yr I just enter the runway with a 90 degree angle then I look out of the side window to the runway, when the runway centerline is pretty much lined up with my eyepoint, I start the turn, and apply about 75% of rudder deflection. You basicly have to make the turn just like a truck or coach, turn it late. And as Fabo says, you also need to get a feel for it, which you'll eventually get after a while. Arjen Vandervelde

December 14, 201114 yr Just to add, when you are lined up, there's no need to stop if you're cleared for takeoff. Just keep it rolling around the corner. A lot of Captains will taxi on to the runway at 40% N1 and continue the takeoff from there. Matt Cee

December 14, 201114 yr Author Thanks guys! Yeah, I'll better just find some way, and get the feel for it. Everything else goes fine, landing, taxi, flying, and so on, it's just that part about lining up with the runway, and also the last part to the gate, it's always a challange to line up perfect to the gate.
