Like many here, I am deeply, deeply disappointed with the the recent announcement from Microsoft. I had pinned many a hope on Flight being the way forward but it seems fairly evident that this is not yet the case. M$ are now targeting Joey Mainstream. Just a shame they don't appear to have done their homework too well in this regard. I frequent many forums, and do enjoy regular "gaming" aside from simming. Interestingly, one of the forums I visit often has a very active PC gaming section. Two Flight threads have appeared there in the last few day - one positive along the lines of "Ooh look, it's free", and one negative expressing recent news (Guilty as charged). BOTH threads sank without trace. Not a glimmer of interest from the regular gamers. Gamers who will enthuse over anything from Chuckie Egg to BF3. The gamers who M$ think will be flocking to fly through golden hoops etc.I honestly believe that we will get our sim in the end as M$ will soon realise the huge error of judgement they have made. The return of revenue that they are expecting will be nowhere near. They will be forced to do a complete U-turn, and will suddenly be looking to embrace the hard-core simmers once more. Although M$ will dress all of this up as some kind of strategy/master-plan. The only question then though is will I want to embrace a company that has such scant regard for it's loyal consumer base?

Microsoft decided FS11 was not the way forward when it closed ACES. If Flight fails in Microsoft's eyes, then that will be the end of its interest in flight simulation.

I read plenty of topics before posting this, both pre and post-announcement. Not too sure what you are implying?

Some people have gotten optimism again from nowhere and think that Flight could be really simulator with even big continents although everything released speaks against that.

Well, sort of, yeah. :( And also that MS won't turn to hard-core simmers because that group is so small you can hardly see it. And gamers won't talk about this game because they don't talk about games they know nothing of and that's not released yet. The fact that we all talk about it here, doesn't mean much. I also frequent other forums and most people haven't even heard of MS Flight. However, I am sure they will notice it when it is released and I also am sure it's going to be downloaded a lot. It's free, after all. Only THEN we will see if regular gamers are talking about and keep on talking about it. MS isn't stupid and they wouldn't do something new like this (releasing a PC-game for free and building upon it through a store) without having done some proper investigation if it might work or not. They didn't make MS Flight just to make fun of some die-hard simmers or to not reach regular gamers. :(

I think that M$ marketing people failed and that most of regular gamers that download it will never buy anything for it, after all its just boring flying game with no shooting at all. In any case its not going to be a simulator for flight simmers.

FSX was derided and hated before and for a while after it's release. Now it is the most popular and best supported Flight Sim.Food for thought.

FSX has whole world, ATC, Third party addon support and everything that Flight lacks. Flight is not a simulator, FSX is.

That's not the point Craig was making... :(

Some of the members on this forum are beta testing Flight. Perhaps that is the reason some are optimistic again. How do you know how much of a simulator Flight is (or isn't), or what the released version will be like? Or what it will be like a year after it has been release?Flight may end up surprising you.

Usually Beta version is pretty much what end version will be. And I wont be impressed as long as there is no third party support, ATC and whole world modeled.

But Flight is still considered to be Alpha. At least it was when they were accepting applications for beta testers. As far as I know. MS has not yet stated that Fight has reached Beta yet . . . perhaps that will happen at CES.

And also: there is no real 'end version' when it comes to MS Flight! So even if the current alpha/beta is pretty much what we can download coming spring, then that says nothing about what MS Flight will become in the months after the release. I am also sure, as I said elsewhere, that there will be quite some dlc ready when MS Flight will be released. Maybe not for sale right away, but have to release dlc quick and quite a lot too in order to bind people to MS Flight.
