That's not the point Craig was making... :(
Exactly ^_^There is no reason to lose all hope based on a beta release that is going to try and appeal to the largest audience (and that isn't us).

In fsx beta we all knew it would have global coverage, and why woudn't it? So people Just expected the final version so that they would go and enjoy their flights, regardless of the bad code cpu hungry and all. In Flight we know it is going to be only Hawai and other small areas around the world don't we?

Yeah its like buying default FSX in small parts minus most of the world.
How about go flying in FSX instead of these endless posts filled with negativity, you are dissapointed obviously, but get over it.
Some people have gotten optimism again from nowhere and think that Flight could be really simulator with even big continents although everything released speaks against that.
Its the same false optimism everyone got when the evidence that FLIGHT was going to be junk started piling up...They refused to see anything, nor listen to logic and common sense... they instead decided to ridicule those of us who was trying to tell them it didn't look good...Now they have gotten another shot of false hope from somewhere, which will ultimately lead them down the path of disappointment again...

One thing is clear. There is no outpouring of excitement for this game from any segment of the gaming community. Not the core FS supporters. Not the Facebook crowd. Not the add-on developers. Not the beta testers. Not the FS site admins. Not the FS magazines. Not MS itself. It is hard to fathom what MS is thinking with its promo campaign. It is basically non-existent. The info released so far is not exciting, it is more like ho-hum.MS may want to lower expectations so much that even a few unexpectedly better features will make us compelled to rush out and support Flight in the hope that it will be better in the future. Hence the glimmer of hope posts starting to pop up.This may turn out to be brilliant or not. I have had much more fun waiting for the release of other games than Flight, that's for sure. It will take quite a lot more than prop-wash and flat-spins simulated in one plane to overcome the distrust that MS has sown in this community.

No we don't know that. What we do know from the Jan 4th press release is that what will initially be released and will be playable for free will just be the "Big Island of Hawaii" and a couple of small aircraft. We also know that: "Those looking to deepen their experience can purchase and download additional content that adds new aircraft, regions and customization options."We do not yet know how big these "regions" will be (nor how much they will cost).Has anyone else wondered what the DLC "customization options" might be? Couldn't this possibly include ATC and a Flight Planner?

And also: there is no real 'end version' when it comes to MS Flight! So even if the current alpha/beta is pretty much what we can download coming spring, then that says nothing about what MS Flight will become in the months after the release. I am also sure, as I said elsewhere, that there will be quite some dlc ready when MS Flight will be released. Maybe not for sale right away, but have to release dlc quick and quite a lot too in order to bind people to MS Flight.
+1no beta tester (yet) but I can only repeat that unless MS closes that loop whole of hope and tells that what we see now is all what we get in the (near) future I do hope there may be a simulator package and bigger extention packages. after all, MS states in their FAQ that they intend to appeal to the 'experienced simmer'. and since so far I see nothing in the videos what could capture me for more than 2 hours to fly around Big Island and hunt for golden rings or coins I hope there is more to come. And if that is true than MS marketing are either idiots because they did not tell us about this together with the press release (and thus creating all these negative posts even on facebook and their blog) or they are genius and wait with the big bang until CES or later to reveal some 'simulation package'. let's see...

All good things come to an end, something no one wants to think about muchless talk about is the possibility this is it... the end of the line for MS and flight simulation.FLIGHT will launch and for reasons you point out will fail. No one sees it as an exciting release, its simply an arcade game, viewed as something to be ported over to Xbox, then forgotten about... MS will look at the cost benefit of continued product development and will simply cancel it.Remember, they are giving the "game" away for free, which is indicative of them expecting their money to come from their add on's which as we see now won't be coming from any of the serious add on players. So that leaves lesser developers, those with little market share presently or in-house...I see FLIGHT fading away, slowly at first then being canceled outright. All good things come to an end...

that is indeed my only concern right now. I mean 50 people for more than a year of development and then a free base pack? there must be more to come. even if unfortunately w/o ORBX, PMDG or Aerosoft which are my primary 3PD I use. But who knows. Time will tell.

True time will tell all, but the core group of serious simmers here tend to flow with the big name add devs, PMDG, ORBX, Flight! et al...But, if they all came out tomorrow and announced they were leaving MSFS for Xplane10, you'd see a streak of people racing to buy XP10... Most won't admit that, but I'd bet you a steak dinner it would happen just as sure as the sun will come up tomorrow.Heck even if PMDG alone came out and moved from FS to XP it would cause a huge shift here...

Exactly. And anyone there, do not think that I take this too seriously. I just find telling the truth and seeing when all optimism regarding M$ proves to be false quite entertaining to do.

I worked for the corporation and division that owned the neodymium magnet (Nd-Fe-Boron) marketed originally as the Magnequench Magnet. (must be cooled at 1 million degrees per second - magna, quench). It is 100 to 200 times more powerful the conventional ferrite magnets. It's also known as a rare-earth magnet. Since it has such extraordinary magnetic power (will lift 1000+ times it's own weight) it has become the defacto magnet of choice throughout the world. It's the reason you see such small devices today where they contain very small yet very powerful electric motors and/or small powerful speakers, etc. When our corporate bureaucratic "suits" lacked the capacity to effectively market this product, and over time, that became a big problem. Patents only last so long. As a result, the entire product line was sold off to Neo Materials Technology Inc. (a Chinese company, now merged) while it was still worth something significant. They got that job done !I see a similar situation developing in with the MSFS situation. This may be a last ditch effort on their part.

Yeah :D
Do you have any fact that in may not very well be a "simulator" one day?
Yes, it can be a full flight simulator again one day. All they have to so is add back in everything they stripped out (like ATC, GPS, Flight Planning, big jets, etc). And after they add it all back in we'll be able to enjoy . . .um, . . FSX2 ("Gosh, it looks and feels a lot like my old FSX")
