Some thoughts after a commercial 737 sim session

Featured Replies

Hi Rob, I know nothing about a sim in Kuwait. I used the one in Auckland, which is the basis of the 'Flight experiance' franchise. It is a Boeing 737 cockpit hooked up to a simulator. The graphics were not MSFS.
I always thought they were using FSX? What other software sim platform could they be using? X-plane? All the videos they used in their promo shots look very similar to FSX (e.g. las vegas, kai tak approach), but you've done the real deal and you can atest to the fact otherwise.

My guess would be that it's not FS9 or FSX but Prepar3d or perhaps its Microsoft predecessor (ESP was it?), since it's a commercial application. I know that that is what's used for one of the research simulators at the Dutch Aerospace Laboratory. They use an external module to run the flight model and then hack into the FS engine via the slew command to control the plane.

I am loathe to contradict you since I just do not know what they actually use, but the graphics did not 'look' like FS9. I did not think that FS was capable of doing full wrap around graphics, the the pilot in the sim has about 270 degree visibility. Also, does FS9 have working flagmen? I thought only FSX had them with the AES add on?

Ok thanks Paul, even if it is just FS9/FSX I will probably go check it out, it looks good so hopefully the one in Kuwait will be the same. The guy's I spoke to looked into it as a cheaper option for a pre interview session, as mentioned they we're not very happy with the fidelity of the sim. Funny thing tho, I never said a thing about FS but they mentioned the PMDG NGX.Regards

Hi Paul,The flagmen that wave you into position are included in that scenery, they work through some 'hack' by reading the view of the player and position. Was quite cool back in '05 - first I'd seen it in a scenery :-)
