January 27, 201214 yr Does anyone know if I should update the FMS every cycle with navigraph data or if I just keep FS Commander up to date I will still get accurate plans. I tried using the FSC forum but apparently my question was too dumb to warrant a civil response. It appears to me that I will need to do two downloads at 20 credits each which translates to about $60 I think.Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks Phill Dant
January 27, 201214 yr You do not have to pay extra for other add-ons from Navigraph. It's 20 credits every month for everything! That means you can get FS Commander9, PMDG NGX, and all the other addons out there that use Navigraph for the same 20 credits. If your talking about keeping FS commander updated by having the latest release of FS Commander then the answer is no because FS Commander is updated using Navigraph updates. January 27, 201214 yr ??When you have a navigraph subscription you can download the Cycle for all Addons which are provided from navigraph. The Credit is for each Cycle, not for each Addon. January 27, 201214 yr Unless you're flying on vatsim or ivao you dot need to keep your navdata constantly updated. Just buy once so your aircraft & fsc are on the same cycle. January 27, 201214 yr Just because someone flys offline doesn't mean its a good idea to update only once. Especially if your using real world charts. If your AIRACs isn't up to date its not going to match the Charts. I don't know why people want to be so cheap about this cause Navigraph doesn't cost that much for these valuable updates. If you can't afford Navigraph updates your in the wrong hobby. Edited January 27, 201214 yr by UAL115 Paul Deemer
January 27, 201214 yr Oh I do update occasionally. I didn't mean it to sound that way, so my apologies if it sounded that way. I only meant that buying every cycle isn't really necessary. Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64

If you can't afford Navigraph updates your in the wrong hobby.Yeah, right.....someone should just quit the hobby if they don't get nav data updates. Give me a break.Having been the low man on the totem pole at corporate flight departments, I can tell you first hand after updating thousands of charts that almost 99% of AIRAC changes are completely minor changes that have little to no operational impact at all. For those few times a frequency, altitude or minimum is changed, you can just have a real world chart take precedence. What is the big deal? Edited January 27, 201214 yr by Valcor Dave Creed
January 27, 201214 yr Yeah, right.....someone should just quit the hobby if they don't get nav data updates. Give me a break.I didn't say if your not gonna fly with the latest AIRACs to quit. What I was saying was AIRACs cost compared to most software you buy out there for FS is relatively cheap. This is not a Cheap hobby and can get expensive in a hurry. So if you can't afford the basic flying tools for the trade then yeah you probably picked the wrong hobby. For those few times a frequency, altitude or minimum is changed, you can just have a real world chart take precedence. What is the big deal? There is a lot more that changes than your listing. If you fly all over the world like I do it's a very good idea to have updated charts and airacs. If you fly online it's mandatory, unless you wanna get chewed out by ATC. Commercial Pilots don't fly with outdated AIRACs or Charts so why would you want to? January 27, 201214 yr Really funny, that such a simple question in the beginning of this thread, very often ends up in this way.It has become verry strange here at Avsim-Forum........ January 27, 201214 yr Really funny, that such a simple question in the beginning of this thread, very often ends up in this way.It has become verry strange here at Avsim-Forum........You are right Frank and I got sidetracked by someone saying that Navigraph updates are a basic flying tool and if they can't afford them, they are in the wrong hobby. That is simply false, but certainly not the point of this thread. To the OP, personally I pick up Navigraph updates very irregularly and find that is more than sufficient. I have not flown online in awhile, but when I did, I never ran into an issue by not having the latest updates. I would say unless you are using the original Navigraph info that came with say the LDS 767 that came out several years ago, you are still getting updated, acceptable information. The NGX for example, IIRC, came with an AIRAC cycle that was current with it's release date. However, since you want to have it coordinate with a flight planner, I would buy one current cycle worth and not worry about it again until you start noticing a whole bunch of stuff is outdated. (that could take a year or more unless a big change happens at an airport you always fly into) Dave Creed
January 27, 201214 yr Not to mention that FSX doesnt give a hoot what cycle you are using, it uses its own database. As someone else said, unless you are flying Vatsim etc, current data doesnt mean a thing. In fact it usually confuses people when FSx and FMC data dont match, freq's, runway heading, etc. Jay
January 28, 201214 yr I just want to add here, but I've never heard or seen any case where a VATSIM controller has "chewed out" a pilot for not having the current navdata. As mentioned above, lot's of times amendments are pretty minor, or easily explained via the chat anyways. Most ARTCC's host .pdf's of the appropriate charts and such, and many times they are not current. They are always acceptable though for use on VATSIM. Patrick Houghton
