Looking to enhance FSX

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,I'm having great fun with FSX for a couple of months now. This evening, I run into some youtube videos with graphics / control panel details / sceneries much more beautiful! So I decided to take a look at some add-ons that can make my FSX experience more realistic. Here's the list of what I plan to buy.- REX HD- Ground Environment X North America (FSX only)http://www.aerosoft....049776970,11750- Also looking for a nice aircraft (nice control panel, nice details, etc). Something between and heavy bird and a beachcraft / cessna. Maybe in the line of the Bombardier LearJet. Any suggestions?I think I found something nice. Anyone use it?http://www.aerosoft.com/cgi-local/us/iboshop.cgi?showd490!0,6049776970,D12054Thanks to all of you for any inputs about those products. Since they cost more than FSX itself, I prefer to ask before ordering. ;)Best regards.

I would add to that UTX. UTX will make your land class, cities, lakes, rivers, coastlines etc match to real life as far as placement of them. It works very well with GEX and like GEX is sold by region. I own GEX NA and Europe as well as UTX USA, Canada, and Europe. The thing about UTX though is that if not setup right it can really hurt your performance. The two biggies that hurt it is the added car traffic it can add and the night lighting. I run with UTX's night lighting OFF but I do run with car traffic on at 12% but sometimes have it off also. Another option also is Scenery Tech landclass when used with GEX and UTX fill in the gaps where the other 2 dont. Here http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html is probably the best advice you will EVER read about how to setup FSX and it also mentions the options I have talked about. For the clouds/weather the new ActiveSky 2012 seems to be the top dog in that area but I am still using FEX and for the weather engine I am using FSrealWX Lite which btw is FREE. FSrealWX has come a LONG way since it first came out and it works perfectly on my system. It will soon though become a payware as the developer has made it available for free for the last year or so and we the users became his beta testers. The last version they released works GREAT. Well, that gives you alot of info to digest and alot of options/money to look at and spend but IMHO the GEX/UTX combo is a MUST have.Jim

I'd recommend FS Global Ultimate, especially if you fly outside North America.I think this is one of the best improvements you can make to FSX, as it gives you an accurate relief 'mesh' over which all your other scenery textures and details are draped. Hills, mountains and valleys will be correctly reproduced. There are two products in the series so far - N & S America and Europe & Africa. They're reviewed here on AVSIM. They're not cheap, but worth it in my opinion as they improve such a large part of the FSX world.Ian

The ERJ series are really nice. Recently PC Aviator had 50% of the ERJ 195. It's a steal at that price. Go check out their deal of the day.For VFR "sightseeing" flights I highly recommend ORBX/FTX. Buy their PNW & NRM regions and download their free airports. They are simply OUTSTANDING!

Thanks to all for these suggestions.First, I will by the ERJ airplane for sure. Just wondering if it's the same package from Aerosoft and PC Aviatior?http://www.aerosoft.com/cgi-local/us/iboshop.cgi?showd490!0,6049776970,D12054Vshttp://www.pcaviator.com/store/product.php?productid=18957&cat=0&page=1If not, which one is better?Second, I'm a bit confused between GEX and UTX and ORBX/FTX. They all look like sceneries / enhanced details, etc). What's the main difference between those 3 products?Third, Thanks alot fo for FSrealWX, downloaded and installed. Did not try it yet. Thanks to all of you helping me demystify all those products, It's a bit confusing at first!Best regards, and happy saturday

Those are two different products made by Feelthere. Select the PC Aviator option. ERJ 175/195.GEX are textures. UTX is landclass, roads, awesome nightlighting, etc. Two different products that work great together.ORBX/FTX same company. FTX is the software we all admire made by ORBX. Buy the PNW region or download the demo.Have fun!

Thanks DJJose,I just bought the ERJ package from PC Aviator and give it a quick shot, it's look very promising fun! Now it's time to read the manual !I also downloaded the demo for FTX/PNW, did not try it yet.UTX and GEX will come a bit later since it's about 120-130$-Edited ;) --------------------Well... not sure how long I can wait to buy GEX + UTX (Canada / USA). I found on the Flight1 site that we can download the whole thing. When I start the installer, it will ask my payment information. The installer seems a bit old, a bit weird... How secure is it to put my credit card # there? It really feels weird, honestly.Link to the downloads I found:http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=gexusacanhttp://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=utxcanhttp://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=utxusa(see download link at near the bottom of the page)Should I feel safe? I believe most of you probably buy this, I just need to be re-assured.---------------------Thanks for your quick input, it's very appreciated.

I started with GEX North America a few weeks ago and liked it. Yesterday I bought and installed UTX USA. I did have to disable the UTX night lighting, because it gave me some choppiness on my 2006 vintage Dell. Other than that, I see no significant performance issues with these fine products. They make the Midwest finally come alive and look a bit more like the real thing. I have heard that a good mesh product can improve FSX even more. Recommendations?
