February 6, 201214 yr Hello CaptainsIt is 90% that I will move to the UK for studying purposes, and a question came upHow will I transport my pc from Hungary to UK?What is the safest method to move a pc 2000km?Any thoughts are welcomeLaszlo Edited February 6, 201214 yr by xamil Laszlo Meszaros
February 6, 201214 yr If you are going by personal auto, I would wrap it in several layers of bubble wrap and pack it in a corrugated cardboard carton. You might also consider removing the RAM, HDD's, CPU, etc, and packing them separately. You could carry those in a briefcase and ship the rest. If using public transportation, try checking on a shipping agency in your area that specializes in shipping delicate objects and buy the insurance. Joe Brown
February 6, 201214 yr Author I think I will travel by airplane, because London is very far from Hungary by car. if I travel by car, then it would be easy. Can I trust the big shipping companies? Because you can hear lots of bad things with the fragile deliveries Laszlo Meszaros
February 6, 201214 yr I would hand carry as many components as possible onto the plane in bubble wrap...then ship the case. At least it'll be lighter and let's face it, the really expensive, fragile items are the internals anyway. Maybe even just consider buying a replacement case once you're settled? It might be equivalent to shipping the existing case.Good luck whichever route you choose. ✈ Alan ✈

In that case there is no question I have to buy a second pc Laszlo Meszaros
February 6, 201214 yr When I have moved cross-country. I moved fragile things of that size (my pc and several guitar amps) by buying those plastic crates from Target or Walmart (rubbermaid etc) that have a lid. I put a fill of Styrofoam peanuts on the bottom, then the item, then more peanuts. I then take a drill and drill holes about 3 inches apart through the edge of the container where the lid and container meet. (So maybe 16 holes around the perimeter of the lid). I then put zip ties through each hole, which secures the lid closed to the container. The pros are it is easy to carry and nearly bullet proof...the cons are the expense of the container and peanuts: $9 at walmart and $5 for uhaul peanuts. Cheers, Jonathan

Sounds good. Also I like peanut.. Have to watch myself not to eat it. Laszlo Meszaros

February 6, 201214 yr Just a suggestion, Lazlo(not named after the world famous Hungarian boxer Lazlo Papp, Olympic gold medallist at 2 OG, are you?).When I moved abroad temporarily, I took the motherboard c/w CPU+Cooler , the RAM, the GPU, and PSU, and the Hard Drive with all my data, all wrapped up in bubble-wrap and easily accommodating in a 25kg-30kg suitcase allowance . The only things I had to buy at the other end was a case and a monitor, and I got both, good makes, at the other end.Worth a thought. That way you can carry on board a flight, all your precious hardware. Rick Almeida
February 6, 201214 yr Author Lol. Okay I get it now.I was thinking how to do this with peanutsHe was a great sportsman. Actually i know one of his ancestor. He is not the only Hungarian sportsman I'm aware of. Hungary has produced legendary back-to-back Olympic swimming and table-tennis champions to go with the legendary Ferenc Puskas.Pity about Malev. February 6, 201214 yr Author Yes we used to be good in many sports especially in football 50-60 years ago. Nowadays we are good in swimming as you mentioned, also in handball and of course waterpolo.I was almost crying about malev as a wannabe pilot. It's a shame of our government to let malev die, but I dont want go in politics Laszlo Meszaros
February 7, 201214 yr You can ship it via DHL, FedEx, UPS...Take out Graphic Card, RAM sticks, Hard Drives. Wrap it, bubble it... If The package will be secured by You, there is really not much that can go wrong. You can ask to treat the package as 'gentle' or pay extra to have the package insured from damage. If it is an old PC and You can afford a new, more powerful one - this is the best time :) Bartłomiej Ender
February 7, 201214 yr Author Lol yeah there is always a reason why I have to buy a newer one. It's not that old ( specs in my sig) but there is always room for improvement. I've asked ups they said they would ship it around £200 Laszlo Meszaros
