P3D not responding to second monitor touch screen
That is a shame, as I was thinking about getting a couple of touchscreens for various uses...overhead panel, fms etc.. If I'm not mistaken, you are saying that as of 3.3.5 , touchscreens (at least yours) are still not working properly. That would definitely cause me to wait..... What model of monitors are you trying to use?

Cost to convert to Prepar3d - An important consideration
Ron, I get where you're coming from but, no, this has been a solid constant discussion on Avsim for at least 3-4 years. P3D was released in 2011. You're just coming in after all of the majors have created compatible products for P3D. However, with the SDK changes in P3D3.3 (deprecating fsx2002 bgl apis, it sounds like) you're going to see even more of this discussion. If devs have to update products (mostly scenery?) we will likely have to re-purchase (some) products, if devs decide to update incompatible products. Unfortunately, the LM moving target that is the P3D api, while (hopefully) creating amazing new features, will create issues with older products. The price of our hobby and its progress I guess. As a software engineer (who also manages), I can tell you: development ain't cheap!

Spanning three x 4K screens in P3D
I run 3x qnix qx320qhd @2560x1440 (7680x1440) off of an i5 2500k and a gtx 770 4gb. You can get these direct from Korea for about $389 a piece off of ebay. It runs pretty well with sliders almost all the way to the right. Now in heavy scenarios at payware airports, things get a wee bit stuttery, but it'll do until I am in the financial mood to upgrade cpu/gpu. The 1440 resolution makes a huge difference in graphic clarity, and the 3 huge monitors is ultra immersive. Well worth the expenditure. You can see my setup in my avatar.

Sorry, couldn't wait: how would P3D display on 3440x1440 resolution display?
gtrbarbarian replied to Noel's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI run something a little different...3 qnix 32" monitors at 2560x1440x3. I just stretch the p3d window to cover all 3 monitors (7680x1440). Works great. I do not use wideaspectratio, because, yes it distorts anything to the side of center. I use ezdok to adjust zoom, and it looks just like in my avatar...

Flight1 - Cessna Citation Mustang for P3D v3 is coming...
I understand having a budget...but I don't get the folks that have issue with $35 bucks for a plane that is widely considered to be one of the best, in a sim that has been sorely lacking in biz jets. I was pissy about the king air not being ported (I own it for fsx) , because the Carenado pales in comparison...but I got over it. If they port that to p3d, I'll buy that too. Companies need to make a dime to keep in business. I just spent $25 on breakfast for 2, and that's going right down the tubes I'm glad to pony up $35...If I get even 35 hours of use from it, that;s $1 an hour...smh

Not impressed at all
I run 3x32" qnix monitors at 2560x1440 on an (antiquated?) i5 2500k and gtx 770 with all sorts of frame eating aircraft and airports. P3D still performs well. Now I don't do the nvidia surround, I just draw the p3d window to the size of the 3 monitors...and it still performs. Now if I drag all my sliders to the right: it doesn't perform. and yes, I know the op found a solution, but I laughed when someone said the 770 was a crappy card...

Need help cannot delete Lockheed Martin folder
This is because the font is installed into windows as a link to the prepar3d folder. The easiest way to get rid of the fonts (glass guage if I remember correctly) is to open up two explorer windows. - Map one to your pc name on the network and go to the fonts folder i.e. \\PCName\c$\Windows\Fonts This will allow you to work with the actual font files. Delete the errant fonts. - Map the other one to c:\Windows\Fonts which will allow you to work with how windows sees "Fonts", and you can unistall the newly deleted font from windows. This should enable you to delete the P3D directory. In order to find the errant files, delete all folders that aren't locked, then delete all files in the locked folder, until only the errant files are left (the glass guage fonts). This worked for me just a few days ago when uninstalling p3dv2...

Viewing charts while in full screen.
I believe shift+tab brings up the steam overlay (browser)...from there you can go to any chart related site (airnav etc) to look up charts.

FTX Trees HD Released
To be honest, I never installed it when moving to P3D from FSX:SE....but they replace default tree textures, so I don't know why they wouldn't work in P3D. I'll install when I get home.... https://sites.google.com/site/aimecreations/freeware-fsx/treex

Must have add-ons for P3D 2.5?
FYI: Pro/ATC X shows you SIDS and STARS on the map as part of its flight planner....and it also is a great atc addon. I used to use FSC a bunch, but I think it's a bit long in the tooth...the map should be zoomable with the wheel mouse... I now use a combination of pro/atc X moving map and Plan-G...

Drzewiecki Design New York City X 30% off?
I just got this yesterday...I have NYCX installed with NYC Airports. I can fly this scenery with 2 airplanes without oom...the default ultralight (moved over to p3d) or ant's drifter... still VAS left available hangs in the 430k-550k range.... amazing scenery though...but seemingly limited in utility in a 32 bit sim. IMHO. My first flight, I loaded up Carenado's DA42 at KJFK, and the sim crashed with OOM before I even saw the tarmac....My very -first- oom in P3D mind you...

How effective are Trackirs ?
It's essential. I use it with all aircraft, for fsx:se and p3d, and with 3 32" monitors. It's not even the same sim as no track ir and one monitor.

Farewell to Flight Sim
LOL I didn't even know there are groups for this outside the internet...simming is what I do when I'm -sick- of being social!

Germanwings 4U9525 dissapears over the Alps
Not meant to be funny, but here is a solution: Build a toilet stall into the flight deck...possibly where the flight engineer used to sit. Yes it would require a slightly larger flight deck...

Did I make a mistake switching to P3D from FSX
I use simstarter to manage my configurations flight by flight: 1) I have a profile setup for each of the areas that I fly in...for instance Texas profile: has my flightbeam KAUS , FSDreamTeam KIAH and KDFW and Xtreme Cities X - USA SouthCentral along with Orbx global and vector If for the current flight, I'm going KAUS to KIAH via a tubeliner, then I disable KDFW and Xtreme cities, as I don't need GA type scenery, or that additional airport taking up VAS. If I'm flying the same flight at FL120 or lower, then I leave Xtreme Cities enabled for GA visuals. 2) flight by flight, I disable in the dll.xml, all addon dlls that I'm not using....i.e. If I'm not flying PMDG, I turn off those dlls...same with captain sim, aerosoft etc.... I only leave the dlls that will be used...FSUIPC, add-on manager, coautl etc. Anything you can do to reduce load on your pc, gpu and VAS usage is worth the while when the result is a smooth sim experience...

Monitor or TV?
I ran FSX on a 40" Samsung TV for about a year with track ir.... I then invested in 3 32" monitors....I don't think I would fly any other way now...it adds so much peripheral vision that world feels like it should: massive.

Floating Buildings KMDW Fly Tampa
I'd mess around with the elevation fixer in vector, as I randomly run into airports with either floating buildings, or trees/buildings on the runway or runways inside deep canyons. Elevation fix and/or library re-order usually is the fix. I also see this behavior when going to/from world view in ezdok/ecza ...which fubars my graphics... I love it when I have the NGX all setup for a flight, then I go to ezdok world view -by accident-...and when I go back to external view, my ngx (and all of the buildings) is 10' feet above the ground only to be dropped back down to the gate. *CRASH*

Are people making the switch to FSX Steam?
I run P3D almost exclusively now...although, yes, I did see VAS management and FPS improvements in FSX:SE. I was running the full orbx global+vector and running complex aircraft... I now only go back to fly the Flight1 B200 King Air, due to Flight1's refusal to migrate to P3D. Both products are pretty rock solid compared to boxed FSX, where I was getting CTD's -alot-.... graphically they are pretty comparable if you are using Steve's DX10 fixer in FSX:SE....

What clouds are you using in P3Dv2.5
Coincidentally, yesterday I ran through AS2012, REX E+OD and REX4+soft clouds with P3D 2.5 trying to see if I had popcorn clouds more with one than the other.... I posted a slideshow in the popcorn clouds thread...it might help you see that..overall, all three products have great looking clouds when run with ASN as the weather engine. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/464547-popcorn-clouds-continue-in-2512944/?p=3205254

Popcorn clouds continue in 2.5.12944
As an experiment, I ran through the same flight in P3D using each of the major scenery enhancements, AS2012 (1024 and 2048 px), REX Essential+Overdrive and REX 4+SoftClouds (both at 2048 px). The weather engine was ASNext for all 3 flights. I departed LIPV (San Nicolo, Venice, Italy) on heading 60 deg from runway 6. I followed runway heading up to an altitude of FL120. Interestingly, I only saw popcorn clouds once and the was with REX4, although it could have been a fluke. I had forgotten how decent the AS2012 graphics are...I actually prefer their water textures. REX4 wins for me for clouds although none of the 3 products are slouches in this category, and as I can switch between them, I'm done buying this type of software.. I could post the 50+ pics here, but that might annoy folks, so here is a link to the slideshow, in case you're interested. http://smg.photobucket.com/user/gtrbarbarian/slideshow/P3DClouds
