How is XP 10 ?

Featured Replies

I have an SLI setup so HDR is not too bad.I did a flight out of KJAC in the carenado bonanza the other day and I was literally gob-smacked at how good the default scenery looked and how real the flight felt. I just wish that the urban scenery looked as good as the more natural stuff. That was such a fantastic experience that I did a OS-up reinstall of my entire gaming rig so that I could put Xplane on my SSD and my OS on another drive. I am trying to download an obscene amount of photoscenery from Yahoo Maps to make the state of Florida in high resolution(it'll take 100gbs or so I think). What I like about XPX is that I don't have the constant nagging fear of some sort of dll crash out of the blue, that was really killing the hobby of flight-sim for me.

Ping Pong,I would really like to see X-Plane 10 set up on a fast computer like yours to see how it runs compared with the MS versions. I wish there was somebody local who has it running as I need to better educate myself about it. You don't like in Atlantic Canada do you? :smile:Kind regards,

Stephen, going by the photos of your system, I'd say you would have absolutely no problems running X Plane 10. I have a slower computer than you do and I'm hitting 30fps on the ground and up to 90 in the air with mid-max settings. You could always download the demo, seeing as you have a similar system to P.Pong.

Stephen,I honestly think the demo does not show off the best attributes of X-plane 10 as they situate you in an area that's hard on framerates, and not really well rendered compared to Orbx PNW. And (quite frankly) the upgraded KSEA and 747 are nothing to write home about.XPX in my (limited) experience is great for GA flying, so many of the "intangibles" of flying my own little plane are there, the minor constant adjustments to keep your altitude and heading, the "wriggly-ness" of flying through choppy air. I fly a Vans RV9a IRL and so I am using the Sequoia Falco to kind of simulate my own plane, and it's so very good.(The Baytower RV7 in fsx is also really good). The reason I decided to switch is that FSX has gotten to be an anxiety-riddled, frustrating experience, I can't stand that I could spend 1 hour of real life setting up a flight, getting charts and maps, and then get some random crash occurs because I clicked the menu bar. X-plane's stability alone has made me really rediscover why I enjoyed FS in the first place. When I started the hobby, I was actually training for my PPL, my FSX simulator was not so over loaded with add-ons, and the FSX out of the box experience was infinitely preferable to the XP9 out of the box experience. But now that my FSX loads 5-10-15 other programs, it's just gotten to be like a mad bureaucracy. The instability really sucked the fun out of sim-flying for me.Who knows in a few years maybe x-plane will be riddled with add-ons and just as unstable, but for right now, it's doing really well for me.Considering what we spend on the hobby and how much time we put into it. I would just suggest you get the whole sim, and some of the better addons like the falco, Goran's stuff, and the Carenado Bonanza.Pick a nice spot in the country(definitely not in the city), take off, and see how it does for you.

I have a 3 year old system now but a brand new video card-and that seems to be the cake-I haven't had any problem with clouds and they look stellar. You do need a good aircraft add on-and there are certain sceneries that convert that take your breath away...

I have the X-Plane Falco, Baytower RV7 (FSX), and the real life RV6A. For many years, my FSX has also been very reliable and stable. Therefor, no plans to give up anything. I see no reason, as it's always great to get a few great addons......for either sim. No sim is dead, until the addons are. Even at that point, it could take years. L.Adamson

Hello !I'm always using a demo version of X-Plane to test new beta versions, and I have my main X-Plane in another folder. In the installer you can uncheck the download of beta releases, then "update" your X-Plane again.Happy flying.

Max I would like to go back to Beta 7, the new RC is the one that I don't like. Do you know how to do that?

Is there a problem with the new RC7 ? As I have the RC7 update.I just purchased a HD 6570 1 GB DDR3 and got it at a dirt cheap rate in $ it comes to around 35. here in India the card costs around 100$ :) I was actually looking for the 6750 or 550ti or a 6850. So with good settings my system is pulling 29 fps @KSEA , does anyone know how to check if XPX is using all cpu cores ? the cpu load in XPX shows .989 something so I guess the moment it goes to 1 the CPU would bottleneck the card am I right ?I think I am going to re install the demo as now my fps has dropped down to 12 don't know why though I was getting 29 fps just before this flight. my card is not bad but not powerful but still .heck let me try XPX on my linux system.

Use Task Manager to view your core activity. XP uses all 4 of mine equally.
