Ok, so it's that board in particular then... I guess that you meant the P8Z68 Deluxe Gen 3, and not the old P8Z68 Deluxe with no PCIe 3.0 switches

Keep in mind that the i7-3820 is an LGA2011 chip, not LGA1155 like the 2600K. The advantage of using the 3820 would be quad channel memory which isn't of much importance to FSX. From the benchmarks I've seen, the 3820 performs on the level of a 2600K/2700K at the same speeds but the price is much higher. I'd say stick with a 2500K/2600K/2700K and then you'll have the added bonus of being able to stick with your motherboard when Ivy Bridge CPU's are released :)
in the UK - the 3820 is cheaper than both the 2600k and 2700k :)only the X79 mobos are more expensive - but even then only 45-50 quid more
+1Also, get a P8Z68 paired with the new higher binned Intel Core i5 2550K. Even though it is 20 dollars more than the regular 2500K, you likely will get better OC performance due to the chip being "cherry picked".With the P8Z68, you will be ready for Ivy Bridge and ready for the new PCIe3 cards. 2X the bandwidth of PCIe2. All of this bundled together will give awesome FPS in FSX.
Beside verifying that one really gets a pci3 board, pairing the z68 chipset with a CPU without an integrated gpu seems to me a bit of a waste of money. A p67 chipset would perform the same and quite a bit cheaper. Unless one is after the ssd cache technology.

Beware...the 3820 is only partially unlocked, where the 3830K and 3860K are both fully unlocked. I think the 2500K/2550K/2600K/2700K are all better choices than the 3820 because of that.@Dazz--it's good to point out that there are a good number of Z68 mobos that are not PCIe 3.0-ready--I was in Micro Center in Denver today and noticed that a very high-end ($380) ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z 1155 motherboard was still PCIe 2.0 only.

Yeah 3820's aren't fully unlocked. I've heard of speeds around 4.6ghz which is decent. But no 5ghz+ stuff

Do you guys know if the new boards solve the problem with sleep modes when using PLL Overvoltage to get into high overclocks? If that is going to be solved by Ivy Bridge?

Are you implying you'll get better performance from the i5-2550K than an i7-2700k? Or are you talking about a bang for the buck ratio?Anyone seen a direct speed comparison between the 2700K and the 3820 in FS-X?

3820 is a total waste. The multiplier is locked. -This means that the OC'ability will be dampened. The 2700K is a very good bang for buck and most guys send them up to 4.8-5GHZ with pretty low volts.
