Anti-Aliasing makes text go blurry

Featured Replies

Hi there,I am just wondering what is going on with my Anti-aliasing. With AA turned off i can perfectly see the ATC text clearly the text on the guages etc etc however when i turn it on via the catalyst controller it improves the textures but makes all the text all blurryPlease see the text two screenshots to show you what i mean.as you can see the text is clear, this is before AA is appliedThis is after AA is applied as you can see it is very blurry now.Any ideas why it does this?Cheers Jboy

Text blurriness is a known side effect of super-sample anti-aliasing. The only was to improve it is to use a lower level of SS AA or use an alternate form of AA such as multi-sample. I hate this effect as well; it literally gives me a headache reading VC instruments so I've learned to live with a little less SS AA.

Too bad the OP is an ATI user, also note this statement from your link:
8xSQ reduces shimmering a bit more than 8xS does, but it comes at a performance cost and may look a bit more blurred due to the higher level of supersample AA used.

Thanks for your relpies guys i've tried the various settings through the various links and i gave them ago and well i got clear text and better looking graphics with better frames I'll take that!! thanks!I have got another question for you tho and this was happening before i changed the settings and that was i was getting stutters every now and again, then it would clear and then it would come back. I don't get a frame hit when there is a stutter so just wondering what the cause could be. I have the default FSX.CFG haven't made any tweaks to it yet, still quite new to FSX in a way. I have a 1 year old family computer it isn't the most powerful but i'll post the specs and if you could say whether it ok etc and also i'll post my internal FSX settings aswell. I have frames at unlimited by the way Processor Brand: Intel Processor Type: Intel Core i5 Processor Speed: 3.2 GHz Memory RAM Size: 4 GB Computer Memory Type: DDR3 SDRAM Hard Drive Hard Drive Size: 750 GB Graphics Graphics Card Description: ATI Radeon HD5450 Graphics RAM Type: DDR3 SDRAM Graphics Card Ram Size: 512 MB Additional Specifications Voltage: 240 volts Wattage: 90 watts Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Fsx settingsAny ideas cheersJboy

Try the following in your fsx.cfg to help reduce stutters:[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14[bufferPools]UsePools=0If you are not using these already, you should see increased performance and a much smoother sim without any stutters. However, the usepools setting is only normally recommended for videocards of 1 gig or higher, so you may get some crashes (though I use it with a 512 card ok as long as i don't run settings too high at system hungry addon airports).IAN

Occasional stutters are often caused by other programs running in the background, like AV actions, or Outlook checking for mail..

I also have blurry text after entering the menu in full screen mode. Like I cant read the .frc files I save with fs.recorder or anthing within the menu. The menu bar itself is readable.

Also, in the past , when I got this problem, the someone had post a solution involving turning on or off a setting in the NVidia graphics utility and I don't remember which it was
