February 28, 201214 yr Just learned about the shade tool for FSX, which is released as payware. It gives similar effects like ENB does, which I would love to use and I also found good settings for it but since after dialog (i.e. map) closing, it sometimes reappears and gives me a black screen afterwards, its not really usable for me.So has anyone tried shade? I'd like to especially have the higher-contrast image and the light adaption.
February 28, 201214 yr Shade actually does something different from ENB. Essentially, it's playing with the darkness (or lightness) and color of the shadows and highlights on-screen, which can be combined to make the light look different at various times of day. You could use it to increase the contrast of a scene, leave the scene dark values the same but lighten the highlights, or any number of other combinations. Fortunately, it ships with a bunch of presets, do you don't have to make yourself nuts trying out all the possible combos. I haven't heard of anyone having trouble actually running it yet.
February 29, 201214 yr I wouldn't fly without it, certainly during the day. Like the OP, I couldn't make ENB work on my system, and Shade is much easier to use, especially if you go with the presets. It adds a tremendous amount of realism IMO.The only slight wrinkle that I found was that flying in Winter in northern UK, it sometimes causes street/house lighting to turn on during the day, but that doesn't bother me.BTW as well as the interfaces supplied with Shade, there is a neat freeware tool called Shade Shifter which allows you to switch between Shade presets more easily. It can be found here:http://fsxtimes.wordpress.com/
February 29, 201214 yr It's not one or the other. I use both Shade and ENBseries together. In fact, Shade comes with its own tailored enbseries.ini file. You can use it or not at your option.Cheers,noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
February 29, 201214 yr I use Shade and ENB together without any bothers.Providing you lighten up the darkness settings in ENB, Shade compliments quite nicely. I believe the ENB settings that come in the extras Shade file starts you off with those settings already adjusted then adjust to suit :( . Kind Regards Simon.
February 29, 201214 yr If you do any mountain area flying you will really like Shade IMHO. It makes my Orbx sceneries even better. It's one of those things you don't even know you need until you try it then you wonder how you got along without it. February 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member To those of you who enjoy Shade:I purchased it when it was announced and do like it. I cannot though, for the life of me, understand the user interface. I have no idea how to set it up, what to change or how to change it. One of my dusk colors makes the sky a neon pink that looks so bad, it's turned into a deal breaker for me and I won't use shade anymore. I know the application is good but I don't see why it has to be so difficult to use.Can someone please help me set up a good looking set of textures? I don't care about fine tuning them, I just want to have a nice big set loaded and forget about it.Yes I read the manual and it hasn't helped me get rid of Pinky. Noah Bryant
February 29, 201214 yr Noah,Clem Wu, a member here, was a beta tester and the author of Shade's operating manual. I have had a recent problem with night textures and he has offered to personally help me through it.Contact him and I am certain he will help you better than anyone else can:http://forum.avsim.n...245926-clem-wu/Kind regards,
February 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member Thanks Stephen -In typing my message to him I was going through everything I had done to try and fix it when I realized what the problem was..it wasn't shade at all. AS2012 had installed the crazy pink texture when I was making a random set of textures which is why I couldn't get Shade to make it go away. Thanks for leading me to the asnwer, lol.I'm loving shade once again! To the OP - Shade is awesome but the user interface is very difficult to understand. Once you're set up though you can forget about it forever and enjoy the scenery. Noah Bryant
February 29, 201214 yr To the OP - Shade is awesome but the user interface is very difficult to understand. So much so I still don't get it. However, those with an IQ above room temperature shouldn't have a problem.Kind regards,
