Will hi-res bump maps cause OOM errors or other problems?

Thanks, Ryan. Makes me feel better to know the pros have struggled with it too!

Ryan, that one looks pretty danged close I think.. I like it better than the darker version youall had at first. And I totally agree about how they get lighter with age.And the ones that do get lighter, can look pretty danged light if the sun is bright.Take fer instance this one I shot.. Looks pretty light.h37.jpgI checked it, and it's a late 2003 plane.. So.. Had about 6-7 years on it when I took this. And pretty bright sunlight when that was shot. But I bet it would look fairly dark if you rolled it into a hangar. And this is basically the same as what my eyes saw as I recall.. Note the sky looks fairlynatural.I've got pictures of other 700's taken on the same day that look darker. Like you say, they were probably newer.

I'm not actually having problems yet. I was just hoping to leave the new maps in 4096 res, but I wasn't sure if it would be too taxing on people's computers. Mine seems fine while on the ground testing the textures, but I havent flown with them yet.Finishing up the tail, then on to the wing!On edit: I'm pretty pleased with the result so far. They will be able to be used with any -700 livery, not just the Southwest's. I plan to upload them with my spec files separate from any livery so everyone can use them, not just us Southwest drivers. I'm going to post a few more previews in a few minutes.
My computer is being a pain so I can't tell what they were to begin with but I dont see why a larger texture file would cause an OOM error unless you are like squeaking by with mb to spare

Chris,Your paint compared to the photos may have a little more red in the blue than the photographed SW paint schemes. Just a thought.Pete

Looks incredible! I think the colors look awesome; it's probably impossible to get one that's "perfect." Not only is every plane going to look somewhat different in real life due to age, but comparing it to photos is difficult as well, not just because of variations in lighting, but because of atmospheric perspective as well - to more accurately compare a computer generated model with a photo, both aircraft would need to be viewed from the same distance, probably close up to eliminate any inaccuracies in fsx's atmospheric modeling. Even then, it's still a model, or representation of how the colors appear in real life, because even if the colors matched perfectly when viewed from a similulated and real 10 feet away, it doesn't mean they will still match when viewed from a real and simulated 400 feet away. Which, again, is I why I think your work is beautiful - it may not match an individual's personal recollection perfectly, but it very closely approximates the appearance generally. Brian Johnson

Hello,

I am not sure if Chris released the full set. I do believe he had released some, not sure if on avsim or elsewhere, and I think I might have the maps somewhere on my drive...
